"The only way to survive eternity is to be able to appreciate each moment."

Camila

I fumble with my hands as I stand in the parking lot of the hospital. I take a deep breath and look into the emerald eyes to my right and she gives me a reassuring look. My eyes drop to the floor. Coming to the hospital is definitely something I'm not ready for. There's a reason that I haven't come back, I'm not prepared to look Alaina in the face and acknowledge what has happened to her. The wounds of her condition are still fresh and seeing her is like pouring salt into them. What if this is the last time I see one of my best friends? What if I never get the chance to see her eyes light up in happiness when I tell one of my bad jokes or get to hang with her in her amazing treehouse behind her house? These are the very questions that I have been asking myself non-stop for the past few months.

"Lauren-I, I don't know if I can do this," I place my hands over my eyes and try to control my breathing.

A warm hand pulls mine away from my face and interlaces our fingers. I look into her eyes and I begin to calm down. Lauren has that kind of effect on people, just a look can calm your emotions. She was one of the only people that could bring me to a happy place when I was upset. I hesitate before wrapping my arms around her waist and resting my head on her chest. She tenses up slightly, but slowly relaxes into and puts her arms around my lower back.

"You can do it Camz, I know you can," her breath fans my ear. I nod.

"I can d-do this," I stutter and released my grip on her. She smiles down at me and grabs my hand. We start our slow walk from the parking lot to the hospital building and I find that I feel better about going inside.

Once we make it to the front desk, I realise that the woman sitting at the desk is the same woman I remember from the last time I was here.

"Kaitlyn," I breath out with a small smile on my face.

"Oh! Camila is it?" she asks with uncertainty.

I nod, "yes I'm glad you remembered. How are you?"

"I've been good, I've started talking to someone recently. Nothing too serious is going on yet, because well I'm not exactly ready for commitment yet. Anyways, how is everything? I haven't seen you around here in a while," she smiles.

"Yeah, things have been a little crazy lately, just coming to terms with it all. Can you tell me where Alaina is again?"

"She's actually awake. She woke from her coma about two days ago. Alaina should be in the food court by now, it's lunch time."

I nod, "thanks Kaitlyn. It means a lot. Have a nice day."

"You too Camila."

I go to walk and get slightly pulled back due to Lauren's hand. I frown a tug at her hand. Her jaw clenches slightly before she walks with me. She releases my hand and walks ahead of me. I tilt my head at her actions and speed up my pace. She notices this and starts walking faster and I jog up to her and grab her hand and pull her back. She squints at me and I sigh.

"What's your problem? We were fine a second ago."

She looks around and makes sure not to meet my eyes, "Hey. Look at me."

"What was that?" she gestures to the front desk, "I was no part of that conversation. You didn't even introduce me Camz."

"Well maybe, that's because I don't know what we are yet. You confuse me. One second you're yelling at me and then you're kissing me."

"You're one to talk. Remember the other day when you yelled at me during one period, and then later tried to seduce me? You're the confusing one Camila!"
