I walk into the school to see Ash waiting for me in my normal spot. I walk over to her, holding my sketchbook under one arm.
"'Sup carrot top?" She slings her arm over my shoulders and walks to a different spot. I had noticed this group of kids, but never paid them much attention.
Now, though, Ash has me sitting in the group. "Guys, this is Skylar. Skylar, these are my friends."
I wave hello as they introduce themselves.
Ty looks similar to Kris, but she has slightly longer dark purple hair. She wears a short sleeved shirt and some cargo shorts.
Gray is a tall lanky bitch with short brown hair and a mind for technology and Magic the Gathering. He wears thin black framed glasses, the ass of a biker and has this weird cowlick in his bangs that makes him look weird.
Then there's someone named Emily. They told me not to call them a girl, even though they have the physical body of a girl. So they'll remain they. They have bright gray-blue eyes and pale skin. They wear a gray and black flannel, and have their longish short blonde hair pulled into a ponytail.
I look away from Emily with a small blush, looking over at the last kid Amber. She has short blonde hair, wow a lot of blondes, with blue and pink streaks. She's wearing a knee-long red dress with some gray leggings underneath. In her hair is a red flower clip, matching her outfit.
I watch them all chat after introductions, and immediately feel as left out as always. The conversation is too split up, too much is happening... I pull my knees to my chest and hug myself.
"Hey... are you alright?" I look up into the soft eyes of Emily to see them smiling. I shake my head no, and I think they sense the conflict in my mind.
"Here, I'll sit next to you." They put an arm around my shoulder and sit next to me. I close my eyes, blushing lightly, and try to relax.
"Ash said your name was Skylar... right?"
I nod.
"Alright, well nice to meet you. I'm going to talk, and you're going to think I'm nuts, ok?" I nod again. "Alright, well did you know..."
They go off on a long rant about Doctor Who and YouTube, which slowly relaxes me enough to pull my legs from my arms and allows my face a small smile.
"Sky?", Ash nudges my shoulder, "Sky? Time to go to class. Maths? The class of many subs? We sit literally right next to each other?"
"Huh? Oh, right. I didn't hear the bell."
The bell rings throughout the school, causing me to jump, causing Ash to smirk faintly.
"That's the first bell. C'mon, then. Can't be late."
I turn toward Emily with a smile, "See you later?"
She grins, "Sure!"
Ash watches our interaction with a neutral expression, eyes tracing Em's face with the detail of an artist, before turning toward me with a grin.
"Let's go!"
