~Two Months Earlier~
~Lacey's POV~
I am overwhelmed with too many feelings that I cannot understand. I just learned that the parents that have raised me my entire life, aren't my real parents at all. I'm not even related to them. They haven't even met my real parents.

I started becoming suspicious when I would overhear my 'parents' say things such as, "we have to tell her sometime" or "she has the right to know." One day, I decided to just ask them. I walked up to them and said, "'Mom,' 'Dad,' what are you hiding from me?" My head was tilted to the side as I looked up at them and waited for their response.

'Mom' replied with, "Sweetie, we've been talking about it for a while, and we think you deserve the right to know." 'Mom' paused, "John do you want to tell her?"

'Dad' looked me in the eyes, "Lacey, we aren't your real parents."

"Well, why didn't you just tell me that I was adopted?" I asked, my thin brows furrowed in confusion.

"Lacey, uh, you're not adopted," 'Dad' stated.

"We kidnapped you while you were in the hospital," 'Mom' blurted out. "Now that you know, we can go back to being a normal, happy family!"

I was stunned into silence.

"How about we go to the mall?! John will give you 100 dollars. Won't you John?" 'Mom' asked with the force of her apparent madness.

"Uh, yeah, sure!"

No words were able to escape my mouth.

"Aren't you excited Lacey?!"

My eyes skimmed the ground in an attempt to avoid eye contact with my so-called 'parents.'

"Now come give Mommy a big hug!" 'Mom' said as she started coming towards me.

"NO!" I let out a screech as she started approaching me, "Don't come any closer! Stay away from me! Please!" I took a deep breath in an attempt to not panic and not cry.

"What's wrong, Honey?" 'Dad' asksed.

"You guys just told me you kidnapped me at birth, and you expect me to be okay with it?!" I couldn't see how it was so difficult for them to understand.

"I know it's a lot to take in, but we'll get through it!" 'Mom' exclaimed, insanity slipping into her tone.

"Okay, can you give me time to think about everything?" I requested, speaking slowly.

"Sure, Honey, take as long as you need!" 'Dad' replied, a little less excited compared to 'Mom.'

I headed up to my room and immediately called the police. "Police, how can I help you?"

I then went on to explain everything that just happened to the officer. "Alright ma'am, officers are on their way." I deep sigh of relief escaped through my lips.

I could hear the sirens before I could see the police cars. I guess my 'parents' could too. "John, what are the police doing here?" That woman shrieked, worry obvious in her voice.

"Alice, I don't know. Stay calm." Their words were spoken through tense lips.

"Lacey, come down here please."

"Yes, Alice?" I replied to her, feigning innocence.

"Why are you calling me Alice instead of 'Mom,' Lacey?" Alice demanded to know.

I heard a sharp knock on the door and shortly after, John opened it.

"Excuse me, Mr. and Mrs. Jones. I'm Officer Perkins;I got a call about a kidnapping. Ms. Jones, do you have any evidence?" the officer turned to me.

"Yes, sir. I have the whole conversation recorded right here." I said gesturing towards my phone.

I replayed the conversation I had earlier with John and Alice.

"I believe we need to take you both in for questioning," he stated, heading in the direction of John and Alice and beginning to read them their rights as he cuffed them. They were taken to one police care and I was lead to the other.

Afterwards, I was taken down to the station and was asked questions. They asked me for my full name, date of birth, ect. They also asked me things about my life with the Jones; such as if I was well taken care of or not.

The officer that was handling my case, was a nice lady with jet black hair and calm, green eyes. She treated me like I was a fragile China doll. It made me want to giggle, I knew I couldn't though. I had to stay strong and keep my guard up. "Sugar, can I get you anything? Water? A bag of chips?"

"No, thank you,any news on my family?" I requested, twirling my hair around my finger.

"Sorry, Lacey, we haven't found anyone related to you." She looked me in the eyes, "If we can't find anyone related to you, Sugar, we'll have to send you to an orphanage."

I nodded and casted my eyes downwards. I wasn't surprised, but I had a tiny ounce of hope that I could find my family.
