Enjoy!

I found Luke in the kitchen with his back towards me as he flirted with some girl, it was only when I moved next to him that I realized it was Anna. The nervousness in his eyes gave away the fact that he was actually serious about her.

" This is Rose-" Luke started to introduce us but I interrupted him not able to let go of this chance.

"His girlfriend. Isn't that what you told mom" I smiled sweetly at Luke, surprised at the hurt look in Anna's eyes.

"Relax both of you, it was just a joke. Luke why don't you go out and stop Brian from messing with my mom. Go shoo we'll be right out." I said pushing him towards the door. Once he was out of earshot I turned towards Anna.

"He's my mate I'm not going to hurt him so I don't need you to lecture me" she glared at me. I blinked surprised at the change in her behavior.

"He's human-"

"I'm aware of that."

"Than you also know he has no place in our world."

"He's my mate"

"You're missing the point here. You're going to end up getting him killed or worse."

"Do you seriously think I'm going to let anything happen to my mate"

"Being mates doesn't magically make all the problems disappear."

"You're mated too so you know what's it like." She tried to reason with me by I refused to listen.

"That's exactly the reason why I want him to be ignorant of this world. I won't be responsible for getting my friends killed just because you decided you can't live without some guy." Anna took a step back as if I slapped her. It was the hurt look in her eyes that made me realize that I'd gone too far.

I turned around surprised to see none other than the stupid Alpha blocking my way. I scowled at him as he looked at us both.

"What's going on here?"

"Move" I glared at him as he ignored me, he grabbed my arm as I turned around to go out the front door.

"What happened?" He asked Anna this time.

"She isn't happy with the fact that her boyfriend is my mate" she grumbled. I scoffed at her words, turning to glare at Alpha as his hand tightened on my arm.

"You're so naive, by that definition I guess I'm sleeping around with half the guys on campus."

"Will you stop it already" he said giving me light shake.

"She started it"

"Enough!" He barked just as Anna opened her mouth to retaliate. There was enough power behind his command that even I felt my wolf submitting to him causing my scowl to deepen.

"What's your problem?"

"You're my problem. You and the rest of your self righteous, hypocritical pack." He raised his eyebrow and I sighed unable to get a rise from him.

"Sorry that was uncalled for." I said sitting on the stool as I massaged my head.

"You okay?" Anna asks tentatively.

"Yeah. Sorry for over reacting"

"Why did you?"

"None of your business" I said as I got up but a sudden thought had me turning around, "Also when you do tell him about everything leave me out of it. I have enough problems on my plate as it is." I left then glad no one stopped me.

I headed straight towards my group of friends, glad to see Luke listened to me. Guess there's a first time for everything.

"I'm surprised you didn't get lost on the way" I muttered sarcastically.

"I really did went to the bath room she's the one who followed me."

"You can't seriously expect me to believe that"

"I don't care if you believe me or not"

"Huh? You just met the girl and already you're a changed man" I whispered and was surprised to see a hint of pink on his cheeks. I sighed guess they really were soul mates.

Dammit

"Who wants to dance?" I asked everyone with a huge smirk which they all returned. I moved to the corner where I spotted the stereo earlier and hit play. I turned around to look for my mom and pulled her in the middle of the group dancing. The next couple of songs were spent teaching my mom some new moves and my friends joined us when they noticed what I was doing. Once I was sure my friends had things covered I went searching for my father and pulled him in next to Mom. Max came running when he saw mom and dad dancing and soon more people joined in, causing the noise level to rise exponentially, what with all the cheering and laughing. This was turning out to be the best birthday party ever.
