His hands were warm and gentle as he held me and began peppering light kisses along my jaw and down my neck. My hands were intertwined in his dark curls and I tugged on them lightly, my efforts earning a small groan from his plum lips.
I shrieked suddenly as I felt myself being lifted off the ground and pulled into strong arms, Harry only breaking the kiss for a millisecond to smile as he backed away from where we were pinned to the wall. He held me bridal style, easily carrying me up the stairs and into the bedroom, his foot swiftly nudging the door aside.
This was really happening. Harry, who even though I had met merely days earlier, was kissing me with so much emotion and passion. I still had no idea why was he treating me like this, so kindly that is. Did he actually care about me or something? Probably not.. No one had ever really cared about me before.
Harry continued walking forward until slowly stopping before the foot of his bed to gently lower my feet to the cool floor. Moonlight shone through the window coating the large bed and our shaking figures in a silver glow.
The pads of his fingers trailed along my jaw as his raspy voice sounded through the silence.
"You're so beautiful, Lucy." He said softly, his own eyes staring into mine with such intensity that I almost had to look away.
I felt my cheeks heat as a soft "thanks" tumbled from my lips. I mentally slapped myself for saying something so stupid and awkward. Harry's mouth grew to a smile at my blush as he began to bring his lips towards mine once again.
Suddenly, everything seemed to move in slow motion.
There were repetitive loud bangs that made my ears ring, high pitched and painful.
And the sound of windows shattering, glass dancing across the hardwood floors.
And in an instant, I hit the ground with Harry's body covering my own.
A scream was heard, and it took me a moment to realize it was my own. It was cut short though when a swift hand clamped my mouth shut. I attempted to push the hand away but was forcefully pushed back down as I did.
"Stay down! Stay down!" Harry's voice whisper yelled next to my ear. His hand quickly uncovered my mouth as he pushed himself up from me the tinniest bit, pulled me around the opposite side of the bed -away from the view of the window- and pushed me down to the floor again, his body still shielding my own.
"Lucy? Lucy are you hurt?" Harry had each of his legs on the side of my waist as his eyes looked frantically over my body, searching for a wound but finding no apparent ones.
"I don't think so." I said quickly, my voice shaking. Take that back, my entire body shaking. Harry seemed to let out a deep breath he was holding as he leaned back onto his heels slightly, pulling my torso to his own and holding me tightly.
Outside, an engine roared to life and screeching car tires rang through the night until the noise disappeared down the street, leaving us in silence except for Harry's labored breathing and my sobbing as I began to realize what had just happened. I fisted his t-shirt tightly in my hands and buried my face into his neck while he shushed me, telling me that it was alright and that everything was going to be okay. The stereotypical things you hear a parent telling their frightened child.
Except this wasn't some scary ghost story over a campfire. This was real. Harry and I had almost been shot. And he.. Protected me? Had he really thrown his body over and in front of mine?
He leaned back against the side of his bed, pulling my frail body between his legs and to his chest. My back was to his front as he engulfed me in a tangle of his arms and legs, wrapping them around my own and cradling me like a baby.
"Shh, Lucy it's alright. I've got you, you're safe with me, always. You know that don't you? You're safe with me. It's okay now baby, it's alright." His deep voice continued whispering soothing words into the shell of my ear as he pressed his lips onto my shoulder and buried his face into the crook of my neck . His breathing was shaky, similar to my own and he almost sounded like he was crying as well. "Shh, baby please don't cry. It's okay you're with me. You're safe. I promise."
We sat that way until my breathing had gone down to an average rate and Harry eventually stood, telling me to stay where I was. He stayed out of the windows view before swiftly pulling the curtains closed to block some of the bitter winter air that easily blew through now.
Harry came back to me, taking my hand and gently tugging me out of the bedroom, carefully stepping around the glass on the floor, to which I was not so careful as I stepped on a rather large piece. I cursed as I fumbled to pull my now bleeding foot away from the dangerous floor. Harry quickly turned around to help me, pulling the largest piece out with his fingers before picking me up in his arms to carry me downstairs.
"Almost thought we made it out of there without an injury." Harry mumbled to no one in particular. He tried to laugh a little, but failed quite miserably. His smile only going half way before a serious look overtook his face; the black, now menacing shadows of the house casting a darker look on his usually uncreased brow.
