{Song in video: The 1975 - Love Me}
As I walked out of the elevator, the first person I saw was Mr. Havens, which was slightly unusual since he was normally in his office at this time.
"Good morning, Anastasia," Mr. Havens greeted me with a slight smile on his face.
"Good morning, Mr. Havens," I greeted him back, smiling.
"Just so you know, today will be a meeting."
"Oh okay, cool." I nodded, and sat down at my desk.
I couldn't help but wonder about him greeting me. I didn't remember him ever greeting me, and if he did, he usually had a stern look on his face.
Just then, I noticed Dante walking toward his desk. "Hey, Dante," I said to him, and smiled.
"Hey, Stacey," he said, smiling back.
We chatted for a bit, and then continued with our work for the next few hours.
When Mr. Havens walked out of his office, he got everyone's attention, and said, "Time for our meeting!"
I quickly put my phone on silent so that this time I wouldn't interrupt the meeting.
When everyone got in the room, and sat down, Mr. Havens started to talk. "I know you all are probably wondering why we're having a meeting now instead of next week on the usual schedule," he said. "I'm happy to announce that this year has been the most successful for our business." He smiled.
Everyone glanced at each other, whispered, and then clapped.
That's why he was happy earlier. I was happy that he was happy. I knew it wasn't the easiest job being a CEO.
He glanced around the room, making slight eye contact with me. He quickly looked away, clearing his throat. "Since we have extra funds, I decided that we should give ourselves a little reward by celebrating this successful year. I know we don't do this very often, but we worked hard this year, and I think we deserve it. Now I don't know what we should do yet, which is why I selected a few to help me out, and to come up with different ideas," He said, and pulled out a paper from his binder. "The people I've chosen are Dante Jones, Sanjay Kapoor, Harper Foster, and Anastasia Marks."
I raised my eyebrows in surprise. Did he call my name?
Dante glanced at me, and snickered. "Yes he called your name," he said, as if he read my mind.
"Oh...wow," I said, not knowing what else to say.
"Why are you so surprised? You've been very responsible the past few weeks. No screw ups, spills, phone going off, or anything like that."
"Yeah, I guess I have been more responsible lately now that I think of it." I smiled.
Mr. Havens continued talking for a few minutes, and then concluded, "This meeting is now dismissed. Great job everyone." He smiled. "To the people I called out earlier, I would like you all to stay here for a few minutes."
Everyone else walked out of the room, except for Dante, Sanjay, Harper, Mr. Havens, and I.
"Okay, so you all will help me to come up with different ideas of how to celebrate our successful year," Mr. Havens said, passing out papers for each of us. "You all can work together, and tell each other your different ideas. When you all are done, then just tell me, and I'll take a look at the ideas. Does that sound good?" He glanced at each of us, smiling.
We nodded our heads in agreement.
"Good. I will give you all about a week or two to come up with different ideas. This should be something good for all of us." He glanced at the clock on the wall. "If you'll excuse me, I'll be heading back to my office. I need to make some phone calls." With that, he walked out of the room.
Sanjay glanced at us. "So how do you all want to do this? Come up with ideas now, or sometime later?" He asked.
"I don't know about you all, but I need to check my email, and make sure a few packages got delivered," Dante said.
"We can come up with ideas later," I said, glancing at everyone. "We can go back to our jobs, and think of a few ideas in the meantime."
"Sounds good, that's what I was going to say." He gave me a nod.
"Okay, cool. I'll try to think of some ideas this afternoon," Harper said, grinning.
We walked out of the room, and went back to our desks.
A few hours later, we met with each other in the room where the meetings were held.
"Anyone have any ideas so far?" Dante asked, glancing at us.
"I have some," I said.
"Let's hear it."
"What about a spa day?"
He gave me a look, and then laughed. "I don't think so."
"What's wrong with that?" I gave him a look.
Harper turned to Dante. "What is wrong with that? It sounds perfect!" She said.
"I just don't think we should waste our funds on something like that."
I sighed, crossing that off my list. "Okay, well what are you all's ideas?"
"We can go to the mountains," Sanjay suggested. "I have some family that lives there. It's about an hour or so away from the city."
"That sounds like a good idea," Dante said. "What do you all think?" He turned to Harper and I.
We looked at each other, and nodded our heads in agreement. "That sounds really good," I said.
"Yeah, it does. I think everyone would like that," Harper said.
We discussed a few more ideas, and wrote them on our lists. Before we knew it, an hour already passed.
"Well, I think we did a good job coming up with these ideas," Dante said. "We'll discuss more ideas later."
Sanjay smiled. "I think we did too. I'm going back to my desk," he said.
We walked out of the room, and continued with our work.
