THE SOMBRE NIGHT

The darkness is engulfing the forest like the waves engulf a sunken ship. I am stuck; this place is a dark and gloomy maze with twisted trees. The shadows look as though they too are chasing me. The trees gossip and murmur in their harsh cold voices. I know somehow I will have to either hide for the night or desperately run and beg in the open streets.

I hear the footsteps behind me, they are getting closer and closer and louder and louder. It is as though they are breathing their harsh cold breath down my back. I hear a crisp voice that cuts through the air saying; "Give up now we have almost got you."

My adrenaline kicks is and desperation pushes me to sprint despite my blood soaked leg. My heavy footsteps have joined the others as they pound against the ragged path, kicking up piles of disturbed dust. How long to go? How long to go? That was the question ringing in my head. I knew that somewhere at the end of this thorny tunnel there was a clearing.

Finally I see it. The streets. Pitch black. There is no moon or the piercing stars. I am done for. Milly McGregor finished. The girl with the bubbly, curious nature and a planted smile. Demolished.

Pain.

Nausea.

Darkness.
