(Rose)

I had just finished work. As I turned to leave the clothing store that I worked in, the security guard stopped me, holding out a bag of money. I sighed as I walked to the elevator and went down to the basement. As I stepped out of the elevator, I saw that the basement was empty.

"Wilson?" I called out. There was no reply so I began walking down the hall. "Wilson, I've got the lottery money." I walked on further until I found his door and knocked on it. "Wilson, you there?" Still no reply. "Look, I can't hang about because they're closing the shop," I called through the door.

There was a banging from further down the hall. "Hello?" I called as I turned in that direction. "Hello, Wilson, it's Rose." I began walking towards the noise, still calling Wilson. I stopped outside a door and opened it. Inside was a dark room. When I turned the light on, I noticed that I was in a large room full of manekins. "Wilson?" I called, as I walked further into the room. Just as I was reaching the end, the door slammed shut. I ran to it but it was locked.

One of the manekins started walking towards me. "You got me, very funny," I said, hoping that this was a prank as more manekins walked towards me. "Right, I've got the joke!" I said as I started to panic.  "Whose idea was this?"

More and more manekins walked towards me until I was surrounded. In unision all the manekins rose their arms to hit me but at that very moment a hand grabbed mine and a man said, "run," and led me away from the manekins. We ran through doors and corridors until we reached an elevator. We ran into it and as the doors were shutting, a manekin stuck its arm in. The man pulled it off and the doors shut.

"You pulled its arm off!" I said, disgusted.

"Yep," the man replied, throwing it to me. "Living plastic."

I caught the arm. "Very clever, nice trick. Who were they then? Students? Is that a student thing or what?"

"Why would they be students?" the man asked.

"I don't know."

"Well you said it. Why students?"

I thought. "I don't know, because to get that man people dressed up and being silly, they've got to be students," I shrugged.

The man smiled. "That makes sense. well done."

"Thanks."

"They're not students," the man said, matter-of-factly.

"Whoever they are, when Wilson finds them, he's going to call the police."

"Who's Wilson?" the man asked.

"Chief electrician," I replied.

"Wilson's dead," the man said before walking out of the elevator.

i followed behind him. "That's not funny! That's sick!"

The man played with a switch and walked away.

"I've had enough of this now!" I shouted. "Who are you? What are those things down there?"

"They're made of plastic," the man answered as he kept walking, "living plastic creatures. They're being controlled by a relay device in the roof which would be a great big problem if I didn't have this." He held out a small bomb. "So, I'm going to go upstairs and blow it up. And I might die in the process, but don't worry about me, go on home. Go have your lovely beans on toast. Don't tell anyone about this because if you do, you'll get them killed." With that, he pushed me out the door and slammed it shut. A second later it flew open again. "I'm the Doctor, by the way. What's your name?"

I jumped. "Rose," I muumbled.

The Doctor smiled. "Nice to meet you, Rose. Run for your life." Then he shut the door again.

I started running home, keeping an eye out for manekins and still holding the manekins arm. When I was a street away, the store exploded. I ran the rest of the way home, not noticing the blue police box I passed.

At home i sat on the lounge watching the news while my mum, Jackie,  talked on the phone.

"I know! It's on the telly. She's lucky to be alive! But it's aged her. Skin like an old bible! Walking in you'd thinkwas her daughter!"

I sighed as she walked into the kitchen flicking her blonde hair over her shoulder.

Then my boyfriend, Mickey, walked in. "I've been phoning you. I was so worried. I can't believe your shop blew up!" He hugged me.

"Honestly, I'm fine," I sighed.

"What happened?" he asked.

"I don't know," I sighed.

"You don't know what caused it?"

"I wasn't in the shop, I was outside, I didn't see anything."

Then my mum walked back in. "It's Debby on the line," she said, holding the phone out. "She knows a man who will give you 500 quid for an interview."

"Oh that's brilliant," I said. "Give it here." I took the phone off her, hung it up and slammed it on the table.

My mum sighed. "Well you've got to find some way of making money. Your job's kaput and I'm not paying you out." The phone rang again and she answered it. "Bev? She's alive! I told you," and she walked back into the kitchen.

"I'll get you some tea," Mickey said. "Actually, you're in shock, you need something stronger. Grab your jacket and we'll go down to the pub."

"Is there a match on?" I asked.

"No," he said, looking away.

"There's a match on, isn't there?"

"Well yeah..." he shrugged. "But that's not the point, we can catch the last 5 minutes."

I laughed. "Go on then, I'll stay here. And take that with you." I pointed at the manekin arm that was on the seat beside me.

Mickey smiled, kissed me, and walked out with the manekin arm.
