"Good job, agent 101." Mr Biggs announced over the phone. "Your target has been successfully eliminated."
Duh, I was there after all.
"We are awaiting you at the central office. As always, use the back door." He hung up.
I sighed: no sleep for me today.
After slipping my helmet back on, I rushed to the central office, just as instructed. The back door was actually the entrance of a fake lawyer's firm. It had to be something that boring or it would be flooded by people. A chinese restaurant wouldn't do the trick, for instance. The SIS central office would've ended up being crowded.
I left my bike in front of the door and stroked it to say goodbye, they would remove it soon anyway, they never let me keep my vehicles after using them on a mission.
I rang the bell.
"Smithson and Bridges. What can I do for you? " a very squeaky voice answered.
"I'm your four o'clock, I have doughnuts! "
They seriously needed to stop giving me that kind of stupid passwords. I wanted great ones like the Americans had in films: the eagle has striken or whatever. They sounded much cooler, not very practical, but cooler.
I walked around the white hallways of the building with confidence, stopping to talk to a couple people and enjoying the view of young agents in training. I didn't miss those days one little bit, training was hard and terrible.
"Mr Biggs is waiting for you." A woman approached me. They all had the annoying habit of always knowing where I was.
I nodded following her. When we arrived I pushed the door open, not bothering to knock.
"Ah, finally! 101, please sit. " the plump old man gestured.
I stiffened. There was another man sitting at the desk. His figure was one I could never forget: Alex aka 109 and my worst enemy/ex boy-friend.
"Snap out of it, Alice." I told myself.
"Yes, sir." I sat, not daring to look at the man sitting beside me, but acutely aware of his eyes on me.
"I have a new assignment for the two of you, unfortunately not an easy one."
I felt my muscles tensing: I was supposed to work with him? Was he freaking serious?
Mr Biggs shot me a warning look. I swallowed my pride and wore my best professional face, swearing I wouldn't let my guard down this time.
"We are looking for this man." A picture popped up on the screen behind him.
"Maximilian Blauer, he's a brilliant microbiologist. " Mr Biggs was surprised by my knoledge. "I read some of his books." I shrugged.
"Very well, the problem is that he's missing, he's been kidnapped with all of his research. He was experimenting with some of the deadliest bacteria and viruses known to create vaccines and antibiotics." He took a deep breath. "But, in the wrong hands, this research and his skills could be used for the wrong purpose."
"Such as?" The man next to me asked.
"Biological warfare." I answered.
"Exactly. " Mr Biggs said. I knew he had a soft spot for me, after all I was the daughter of the greatest agent of all times and one of the best at the agency. "Your job is to track him down and take him back to safety. Agent 109, you will investigate the disappearance as you have not yet been cleared for actual espionage work. You will also provide back up if necessary. "
