I cracked my fingers and my neck while he was jumping lightly from one foot to the other. His trainees gathered around the mat, wondering curiously what was about to happen.
"Fuck." The kids had phones. The phones had cameras. Cameras could record me. And I couldn't be recorded, it wasn't a risk I was willing to take: my identity needed to be a secret, for both my safety and my family's. Someone could have recognised me putting my whole life at stake.
"Hey, could you maybe collect their phones? I can't be recorded. " I asked approaching him, not wanting him to ask anymore questions on the matter.
"Why? Are you afraid to loose on tape?" He smirked.
Was he challenging me? I raised an eyebrow and smirked. He wanted a fight? I would give him the best fucking fight of his life.
"Either you do it or I won't even fight." I announced with an impassive expression, secretly hoping he would listen to me since I wanted to fight, badly.
He sighed. "If this is a distraction tactic, I swear I won't go lightly on you." He threatened smiling.
"I never asked you too."
I went back to stretching my arms and legs while he collected his students phones in a brown cardboard box.
"Okay, guys, today instead of training right away I'll give you a fighting demonstration. " he announced rubbing his hands together. "This is Alice, some of you already had the unfortunate pleasure of making her acquaintance. " he smirked.
"Enough already, bring it big boy." I teased gesturing for him to come closer, my muscles already tensing and ready to attack.
He laughed. I felt blood pounding inside my ears and adrenaline flowing in very cell of my body.
"As you wish, love, don't you cry if I hit to hard though."
As if.
I put on my best combat face. Concentration started taking over and I suddenly became aware of my surroundings, focusing on even smallest detail of my opponent.
My martial arts teacher had been an old asian man named Ping Lu, he had a set of rules my brother and I needed to follow to become good fighters. Rule number one was to be connected to your body at all times, to be conscious of every inch of it. To achieve this we had been forced to meditate for years, at first we hated it, but in the end we understood why it was necessary.
Damon came closer and we looked at each other for a while, studying our weaknesses and our strenghts. His build was both for him, it made him lack of agility but also very strong.
He smirked while I held my impassive face. Lesson number two of Ping Lu: never let your opponent know what you're thinking. I would use his overconfidence against him: he was one of the many men that had underestimated me.
"Hey, get to it already!" A boy shouted.
Damon approached me and tried to punch me in the face, but my eye was well trained: he was trying to distract me so he could land hid left fist on my stomach.
I moved my head before his fist made contact and blocked his left hand with both of mine and, using it as an anchor, I kicked him in the face. He stumbled backwards.
"You're so mean." He smiled regaining his balance.
I shrugged, fighting the smile that was creeping on my face.
"Concentrate, Alice!" My inner voice told me.
He came sprinting towards me.
"Oh, please, don't run! You'll make it far too easy for me." I protested. But a couple of seconds before slamming in to me he slid to the floor, using his body as a bowling ball. I hadn't foreseen that at all.
I jumped, trying to avoid impact, but a big hand grabbed my ankle dragging me down.
"If you wanted me on top of you you should've just asked, you know." I teased, escaping before he could force me to the floor. I knew I would loose if he managed to pin me down: he was far to big and heavy for me and I suspected he knew that too.
"Get up, big boy." I called.
Just as he kneeled to get up I crashed my knee on his jaw, making him fall back again.
"Oh, did that hurt?" I teased.
"Okay, Alice dear, no more games." He sounded pissed, he was probably not used to loosing.
I grinned, genuinely amused. I hadn't had that much fun since Kate died. I pushed the memory of her away before it could distract me. But it was already too late.
"Fuck." I moaned.
I had been distracted for less than a second and he'd punched me in the stomach. I fought wildly against my body's reflex to double over in pain. I had been trained to resist this kind of attack and now my training was proving to be useful. I wore my impassive face once again, ignoring the terrible pain in my stomach.
"Who the fuck are you? " Damon asked with curiosity.
That punch would've put down any normal person, but it was too late to double over and pretend, plus I hated loosing. I needed to end this quickly before getting exposed and before anyone got suspicious. I suspected they already were.
I approached him and attacked, punching him in the face. He blocked my hands and started twisting my wrists, it hurt like hell. So I kicked his right elbow and he let go of my left hand. With a swift movement I freed the other one too while I kicked him behind the knee. He fell in a kneeling position.
He looked stunned, I was so fast he could barely see me moving. My eyes were locked to his as I kneed him once again in the jaw and he doubled over. I pushed him to the mat, making him lie on his stomach and blocking his arms behind his back by sitting on top of him.
"I think I'm starting to enjoy being on top of you." I whispered to his ear.
"I bet you are." He laughed. "You win, by the way. But we're not finished, I guarantee you that."
"You really want a rematch?" I laughed.
"No, I want you to train with us." He said seriously.
I stood up and took a few steps away.
"I can't. " I couldn't risk being exposed, the fight was already a huge mistake.
I grabbed my stuff and ran to the showers.
"I'm so stupid!" I muttered to myself.
I needed to be more careful, I shouldn't have let him get to me the way he did.
"Wait!"
"This is the ladies changing room, in case you hadn't noticed." I announced angrily.
"What's wrong with you?" He asked with worry. "Why are you always angry and running away?"
That was exactly yhe moment I noticed he was bare-chested.
I furrowed my brow confusedly. "Have you misplaced your t-shirt?" I teased hoping to change the subject.
He was ripped, for crying out loud!
"Okay, Alice, calm down! Remember Ping Lu's second rule!" I told myself.
"Like what you see?" He asked amused by my stupid facial expression.
He came closer and started caressing my shoulders, sending shivers running down my spine. I was as still as a statue, trying hard not to give in to him. He then left a trail of kisses on my neck that caused my body to warm up excitedly.
"Oh, fuck Ping Lu's stupid rules." I cursed as I put my arms around his neck and kissed him deeply.
