Chapter 30
“Oh my god,” I whispered, my voice filled with awe, my eyes locked on the sight in front of me. “This feels so surreal.”
“Tell me about it,” Dan muttered, his eyes wide as he stared straight ahead.
“I might pass out,” Troy said, his voice breathless.
Cindy let out an excited giggle and started jumping up and down before reaching out and grabbing one of our CDs off the shelf. “Well I’m not going to pass out!” she said, launching herself at Troy and flinging her arms around his neck before kissing him thoroughly.
I glanced over at them and grinned before focusing back on the display in front of me. “I can’t believe this is happening.”
“It’s not like this is the first time you’ve had a CD out,” Mac said and when I turned towards him, he was looking at me with an eyebrow raised.
I shook my head and looked back at the CD with Burn to Shine written across it in bold letter. “This is different,” I said quietly, running my fingers over the words.
“Hey!” Cindy shouted, making our gazes snap to her. She was holding our CD in the air, waving it at a teenager who’d just walked into the music store. “You should check out this band!” she said, rushing towards the kid who looked at her with fear in his eyes.
Troy let out a deep chuckle before following her towards the startled youth. “Cindy, you’re scaring him.”
“No I’m not,” she said, putting her hands on her hips and glaring at Troy before looking back at the teenager and narrowing her eyes. “Am I scaring you?” she asked. The kid shook his head immediately, clearly afraid of the much shorter girl’s wrath. “See?” she said, pleased with his response. “Now, let’s talk about this new band, Burn to Shine.”
I let out a little chuckle before turning to face the wall of our CDs again. “I want to remember this,” I whispered, closing my eyes and drinking in the moment.
“Okay,” Dan said, walking away from me and Mac towards the sales clerk and handing something over to him before walking back with a grin on his face. “Troy!” Dan said over his shoulder, moving next to me and slinging his arm over my shoulders. “Get over here!”
Troy grabbed Cindy’s arm and dragged her towards us as the teenager breathed a sigh of relief and left the shop without a backward glance. “What’s up?”
“Rose wants to remember this,” Dan said, gesturing with his free hand to the space beside him.
A tingle ran up and down my spine when Mac’s arm wound around my waist, tugging me close to him, forcing Dan to take a step to the side in order to keep his grip around my shoulders.
“You guys ready?” The clerk said, holding the camera that Dan had handed him in front of his face.
“Just about,” Troy said before scooping Cindy up in his strong arms in a princess carry and grinned at the camera as she squealed. “Okay, now we’re ready.”
The clerk snapped the first picture as I was laughing with my eyes closed so I asked him to take another but Dan had his eyes closed in the second one. For the third, the clerk counted to three and just before he pressed the button, I felt two pairs of lips settle on opposite cheeks making my eyes widen as the flash went off, making me see stars as Mac quickly withdrew while Dan lingered for a moment.
