Even for the closest person, whom that you thought understanding and care for you could have it's limits.
So they're gone, to keep their sanity.
Just vanish, with little bit reasoning alibi so then they're didn't take the blame when the self killed itself.
The truth might be a little bit too hard for them to understand, but the self didn't lie. She won't lie to them, they're her thread of life. Once they're gone, and so do her.
Why they didn't ask about what did she do.? Why don't they give her a chance to explain.? Or those are just nothing to hear.

Might be she's the one that detached herself first from them and they didn't know how to catch her back.
Might also she's the one that flew away leaving them behind without her knowing, for she chase a shadow of her catastrophe.
They won't follow into the darkness, there's nothing on it to be held with. So they left her be.
