Chapter 8
Okay, so a couple of weeks after Lance's big confession, it became a nightmare for me. But thankfully, my knight in shining armor (Kyle) is here to help. Ever since that night, it got pretty awkward for Lance and I to be in in the same room especially when we're with my parents.
Whenever we'd make eye contact, I quickly look away or when I'm alone in the living room or anywhere in the house, he doesn't come near me anymore. He's been spending a lot of time in his room working on his "music" but I know some part of it is to avoid me and Kyle.
Lance and I don't talk anymore and it's probably for the best because he needs to think about what he has done to our friendship and time to process the news about his dad who will eventually die in the nearer future. It's good he's "working on his music" so he'll realize that what he did was stupid and immature.
But enough about him, life still goes on. Just a few more weeks 'til summer officially ends and this weekend I'm going to New Hampshire. I finally grew some balls (excuse the language) to ask my parents if I could spend a weekend with the Lennox family and thankfully they said yes! They'd probably jump on the opportunity because this weekend Lance will be spending time with his mom because she's in town and my parents probably want to relax and spend some quality time together as a couple at home.
So Friday morning I woke up, ate some breakfast, took a shower and did some last minute packing in my three day weekend travel bag, which by the way is very sheek and fab if I say so myself – well it's my mom's so... Okay moving on, I go downstairs to say good bye to my parents and walk over to Kyle's house only to see Ken (Kyle's brother) in crutches.
"Biking incident, I assume?" I asked him and he just smiles at me. "Tell your brother he's such a jackass for dragging me on that biking catastrophe." He joked and I laughed a little. Yup, Ken and Peter (my brother) are best of friends and together with their friend group, they go on a lot of biking, camping, hiking trips and do a lot more outdoorsy stuff together. Then Kyle comes out bringing his duffel bag and wake boarding stuff. "Good morning beautiful!" He said and kissed me on the forehead while putting the stuff on the back of his truck. He takes my bag and puts it in the back to where the rest of the bags and other stuff are.
Then I see Kyle's dad come out while his mom and sister, Kim are following him. They smiled at me and Kim hugs me as well as his mom. "Alright, glad to have you with us, Emily." His dad said. "You and Kyle will drive with our stuff while Kim and Ken ride with me." He said as he pointed at me. They were riding in Mr. Lennox's 2012 Ford Expedition while I ride in Kyle's red 1980s Ford pick up truck.
So Kyle opens the door for me and I wait for him to enter the car. As soon as he's in, he turns the key and we hit the pavement. It was a four hour drive to Seawall road, Wolfeboro, New Hampshire where Kyle's grandparents live.
While driving Kyle and I talk about random things and I swear it never gets boring. After a while, we reach the topic of Lauren and Zach and things got pretty heated.
"All I'm saying is that they don't make sense to me like at all!" He said with such passion. "Me too! But I told Lauren that whatever she does I'd support her." I replied. "Okay I get you but c'mon, Em it's Zach. Do you know what kind of person he is when he's not with us?!" He said. "No... But I hear stories..." I trailed off.
We come to a stop and he looks at me, "Have you seen the people in our soccer team?" He asked. He paused for a while, "They're mean rich kids." He said and we drive again. "You're exaggerating!" I said and look out the window. "Do you really want me to tell you locker room talk?" He asked and I look at him while his hand is on the wheel and the other on the stick.
