"Laura, dear, are you ready?" Mrs. Marano called. "Yeah, I'm coming! Just give me a sec!" Laura hollered, quickly grabbing an apple before running down the stairs.

"Come on, honey, let's go," Her mother smiled at her before turning and going out of the house. "Shit, I'm late. So late." Laura muttered to herself, scolding herself as to why she had stayed up late at night to finish her novel.

Well, that novel was awesome!

"So, Laura," Ellen (Her parents had insisted that she called them by their first names) cleared her throat. "Did you think about that group? I mean-"

"Mom, please!" Laura frowned, knowing that her mom was soon going to bring up that topic.

"Laura, dear, please try to understand. We're doing this do for your own good," Ellen coaxed. "Mom, just please drop it for now. I'm getting late."

Without further ado, Laura got out of the car as fast as possible.

'LockWood Inn'.

She stared at the entrance of the huge inn, shaking her head. Then, she started making a way towards it, not ready enough to go through the same routine again.

Laura knew that Ellen was just faking caring about her. All Ellen cared about was Vanessa, Laura's older, perfect sister.

Comparison between the two sisters had always been prevalent, but since the last two years, her parents had taken it to a whole new level.

Vanessa couldn't help but make the matters worse, by just simply acting like a bitch. Laura made her way into the corridor.

In her town, LockWood Inn wasn't a bar or a pub. It was a simple restaurant. "Good morning, L!"

At the mention of her name, Laura turned her head to look at Robin, her co-worker. Just a co-worker, not anything more.

"Morning!" Laura gave him a small smile. "A 'good' one would be nice," Charlie joked. Laura rolled her eyes, but couldn't stop the smile that made up to her face.

Charlie was the closest she had to a friend. She often repeated to herself, He's just a friend, nothing more. I can't let him get close.

But the truth was that Charlie and Laura were definitely more than friends.

No one could miss the way Charlie blushed whenever Laura was around or the way Laura seemed happy when in the company of Charlie.

Charlie made Laura happy. That's what friends were for, right?

"So, L, lemme guess, you stayed up last night again?" Charlie gave a her a knowing questioning look.

"It was totally worth it, though. No one can get enough of Harry Potter, can they?" Laura said, making herself comfortable on a couch.

No customers were here yet, mint make the best of what was there before the annoying people came in, right?

"No one can," C agreed. Charlie and Laura were on first-letter-of-name basis. "L," C seemed nervous and tense all of a sudden.

"Yeah?" Laura pinned some of her hair back. "Umm," C was fidgeting with his thumbs. "I was wondering if you'd be- umm, like, really pleased to attend a HP marathon? I'll bring all the popcorn and stuff, and-"

"When?" Laura interrupted. "Umm, tomorrow? Or, we can keep it some other day, too," C rushed, looking up with a hopeful look.

"As friends?"

"Well, I was hoping-"

"No, C, I can't." Laura cut him off, inverting her glance. "I- umm, it's okay," C tried to act nonchalantly.

"I- I am sorry," Laura said. "I just can't."
"You can do it. It's just that, L, come on, I've-"
"Please, C."

Laura's eyes were filled with tears. "Oh, I'm so sorry, L. So sorry," C's eyes had widened.

"I-it's okay, C." Laura gave him a weak smile before getting up and walking away.

C didn't walk after her. He knew she needed time alone.

He knew a lot, but he didn't know enough.

When Laura returned to the Inn, C wasn't there. When she asked about him, Maria (another co-worker) said, "Family business."

Customers were appearing every minute and Laura went from table to table to get everyone's orders.

There were cheerleaders with their tiny outfits, teenagers on dates, old couples. They were the same people Laura saw everyday. Well, not everyday. Only weekdays, to be precise.

It was dull, boring and monotonous. Laura made no effort in talking to the people, and after a while, even they stopped.

But this very surprising day, Laura was about to see a splash of beautiful colours among black and white.
