the bus pulled up to tyler's house on ruby ave and stopped. tyler stood up, but waited, seeing josh get up too. with a nod of "dude it's cool just go on ahead" from tyler, josh smiled slightly and got off of the bus.

tyler pulled a key out of his pocket and opened the door.

"i'm pretty sure my mom's here," he said, a second voice quietly warning "so watch the fuck out."
"okay," josh replied, nerves mounting.

the boys walked inside and josh was all anxiety, fidgeting with his hands and feet and hair and --

"hey be right back," tyler said sympathetically. he walked into the kitchen and saw his mother hacking away at some meat.

"hi mom," he said cautiously.
"we need to talk about your goddamn therapy," she snapped back, on-beat with another stab at the meat.
"okay, but -- i have someone, um, over."
"what?"
"yeah."
"he's in the living room," tyler said, bracing himself. his mom washed his hands and put on a fake smile, walking over to where josh was sitting awkwardly.

josh looked up and bit his tongue, telling himself this would only last a few minutes. he stood up, stuck out his hand, said "hi, mrs. joseph, i'm josh dun," the whole charade.

tyler stood in the background, dumbfounded. he knew nothing about josh and yet josh knew tyler's last name.
