Sorry I took so long to update! I got so caught up in the idea of summer vacation that I kinda . . .

Forgot . . . Sorry XD

♡Marinette's POV♡

Marinette didn't get a blink of sleep.

Serves her right for sneaking out at night while her parents were asleep.

Was it a mistake, though?

Was it worth the trouble?

Marinette winced as a flashback of Tikki's protests echoed in her head. She shook her head violently, trying to get the memory out of her mind.

Of course it was, one side of her brain told her. You got rid of the source of guilt.

Marinette glanced at the laundry hamper, a black sweater sleeve sticking out from the side. Taunting her.

. . . Then why do I feel so guilty?

She'd gotten into a pattern by now. Lie down, cry, regret, repeat. At least, it was all she did since she decided to get "out of bed," though she'd been sitting in the exact spot for hours.

She forced one foot to dangle off the bed as an attempt to get up. Her legs felt unbelievably numb, and that wasn't from sitting on her butt all day. Driven by the thought of sugar cookies, she finally found the strength to get out of bed.

Shuffling down the steps in bunny slippers, Marinette couldn't help but notice the utterly lonely silence she was stuck with, no sweet little voice in her ear, no tinkling laughter to her.

It was . . . Painfully unusual.

Returning my Miraculous wasn't a mistake, Marinette calmed herself. It was for the greater of the good. I made the situation better. Chat and Volpina can take care of Paris until a new Ladybug is nominated.

Suddenly, a memory flashed into her head. A ring being pulled off a finger. A transformation being released.

Marinette's forehead started pounding from an oncoming headache. She staggered down the stairs, hand pinching the bridge of her nose.

Before she made her way down the steps fully, she heard her mother's voice call from the kitchen. "Marinette? Is that you? Are you alright?"

She wiped the wince off her face and responded, "Yeah, mom. I'm fine."

Marinette turned the corner and saw her mom mixing something in a cup that smelled of calming herbs and raspberry.

She was filled with confusion, for her mom wasn't in the bakery that morning. "Why aren't you working?"

"Did you forget?" her mother picked up the steaming cup by its handle and took a small sip. "It's Ladybug and Chat Noir Appreciation Day! We've always had off for the celebrations."

Marinette's stomach clenched as her mother casually took another gulp of tea with more courage than the last.

Appreciation Day? Marinette cursed herself. Goddamnit! Now I feel like an even bigger ass. The last thing I needed.

"Dear, are you okay?" Sabine asked, eyebrows creasing.

Marinette couldn't afford to answer, her stomach twisting so painfully that she was afraid if she moved, she would have to witness hell in a stomachache.

Sabine set down the tea on the kitchen countertop. "Sweetheart, does your tummy hurt?" she spoke to her daughter as if talking to a baby. She gently took her by the shoulders and guided her to the couch. "Here, dear, lay down, watch some TV."

Marinette took the remote in her limp hand and turned on the television, mindlessly flipping through the channels. Nadja Chamack's bold voice halted her to a stop. She let the remote fall to the floor and she listened closely to the news, which wasn't a very often occurrence.

"-Happy Ladybug and Chat Noir Appreciation Day, Paris!" Nadja stated in a sweet tone. "Today we celebrate our lovely duo, Ladybug and Chat Noir, for their commitment and care to help the citizens of this beautiful city!"

The two words struck the young bluette like spears piercing skin. She shook her head, tears misting her vision.

"But the Ceremony of Appreciation in the Louvre is unfortunately going downhill," Nadja continued. "Neither Ladybug or Chat Noir have shown up. If not there by one o'clock, Mayor Bourgeois will have to cancel the event, leaving this year's holiday a tremendous flop." She ended with a solemn look. "Back to our mayor, who is currently at the Louvre at the moment."

Marinette didn't bother to listen to anything else. In fact, her mind seemed to block out all noises in her head.

"But the Ceremony of Appreciation is unfortunately going downhill," echoed in her mind. "Today we celebrate our lovely duo, Ladybug and Chat Noir, for their commitment and care to help the citizens of this beautiful city!" "Mayor Bourgeois will have to cancel the event, leaving this year's holiday a tremendous flop."

She felt bile rise up her throat. "-a tremendous flop," was all she heard before she threw up.
