I would call her an absolute angel, if it wasn't completely illegal to believe in angels. Having Janice around was so much fun, I could tell that Carlos was also enjoying spending time with her.
On our last full day with Janice, Carlos had planned to have us look for different things in Mission Grove Park to use for arts and crafts. He had wanted to test a new liquid adhesive he had made in the lab and figured this would be the perfect opportunity to try it. Oh Carlos, he's so smart and creative.
"Uncle Cecil, could you grab those rocks for me?" Janice asked.
I grabbed the rocks that Janice was pointing to and put them into the reusable grocery bag that we were using for the scavenger hunt.
"Ooh, Carlos," I exclaimed, "look at this." I gestured towards a strange looking creature that did not move or make a noise. It was brown and round with many spikes.
Carlos walked over to me and Janice rolled along beside him.
"Cecil, that's just a tree seed." He explained. He's so smart.
"What kind of tree, Carlos?" I asked.
"It looks like a Sweet Gum, don't touch it."
I looked longingly towards the seed. I thought it would make a nice head for the Khosheck figurine I was going to make.
Our little scavenger hunt went on for almost an hour. It was so fun to be outside and enjoy nature. We all went back to the apartment to create our masterpieces. Janice made a majestic horse, Carlos made a very scientific Rosalind Franklin, and I had went through with making Khosheck. Instead of the seed, I had used a rock with a similar shape to it. Carlos warned me not to touch it, but the rock was far less sharp.
