Chapter 6

Maddie's P.O.V

I stared at my mom, who didn't have one wrinkle or age spot. And she just grinned at me. I was pretty sure the grin had to do with the look of complete doubt on my face. There was no way she was three hundred and fifty years old; she still had her period for freaking sakes! How could she be that old, and still look like she was in her late twenties? I looked at my dad, glaring at the smile that was shining out of his eyes.

"Three hundred and fifty years old," I repeated, glancing at Kelsey and Ashton. They seemed to be shocked but not as shocked as I was. I wasn't really happy with the faint shock that barely showed on their faces. They seemed to have been more prepared for this kind of news then I was, like really? Who can be prepared to hear that your parents were that old? "It's not possible to be that old! You don't wrinkle in sight, and I know you have a heartbeat. How can you be that old, and still be able to be a living, breathing person?"

"It's a long story, Blue. And it'll be kind of confusing for you, since you haven't read any of the books but we can explain why we had to change our name. . . if you want us too," my dad said, frowning at my mom as if something was her fault. "I'm sure that Ashton and Kelsey will let you borrow their books so you'll be able to better understand what's going on within you."

"Hold on, only certain bloodlines can live that long, and still be alive. I've read all the books, you don't have any of the signs that mark you as being full vampire," Kelsey told my mom. "Only the la BerviMaurus, the De Facterio and the Fierdree's have strong enough bloodlines to stay alive for so many years."

"And we are the la BerviMaurus bloodline. They still haven't found the De Facterio heir, so that's why dad's ruling the vampire council," Ashton added, tightening his hand on mine.

"Why do you stay that we are of the la BerviMaurus bloodline?" Mr. Maurus demanded, narrowing his eyes at Ashton.

"Really? I have no idea of what the hell is going on, and your last name is just a shortened form of la BerviMaurus. If you didn't want people to know, you should've changed your whole name," I said, looking at him like he was little slow before throwing Ashton a questioning look. "So, is this why everyone at school kisses up to the both of you? Because you're of this bloodline?"

"Yeah, almost all of us know that we are really la BerviMaurus. It gets to be a pain, all the other living vampires are forever stuck up our asses. They don't even really like us, they just like our rep and the novelty of being around the ruling bloodline," Kelsey told me, catching my eyes and sighing. "You're the only one who didn't really care about our bloodline, or anything about that. You don't know about all of this yet but I just don't see you caring too much about bloodlines."

I laughed, throwing my arm over her shoulders. "I judge on who you are as a person, not bloodlines. You could be the lowest of low and I wouldn't care. If you have a good personality, I will go out of my way to befriend you," I told her, smiling. "I can't believe you noticed that I really don't care about petty things like that."

"Hm, that's kind of ironic," Mr. Maurus muttered, throwing a sideway look at my mom.

"What I'm about to tell you, stays here. We will tell the school when the times right until then the three of you better keep this quiet, do you understand me?" she demanded, glaring at each of us. I nodded at her, my stomach fluttering as she pulled in a deep breath. "My real name is Alida De Facterio," she said, a grim look sliding through her eyes.

"What?" Ashton and Kelsey blurted, staring at her like she has grown two heads. "B-but the De Facterio bloodline can't be their mates. The old rulers out-lawed it."
