I smiled shyly. "Hi". When I shook his hand he froze. I guess he's shocked at how cold my hands are. And they're not even that cold.
Well to me.
"Okay you too, please set the table. You know how to do that right?" She turned to me.
"I wouldn't be here if I didn't",I answered. Kevin smiled at my answer as he took out the utensils.
"You must've come a long way then,Elizabeth",Kevin spoke, handing me a fork. My name rolled off his tongue with fascination and curiosity,as if it was a cover of a book and thinking of what kind of story was behind it.
"Yes I have".
He's just like his mom. His big brown eyes, that are filled with kindness says it all.
After the table was set,and the breakfast placed by Marie, we sat quietly eating after Kevin said grace, which made me smile to know there were persons who still graced there food. I was very happy for such a good breakfast. Pancakes with fruit and apple juice. I wanted to stuff my face but Craig would probably throw me out right after I did.
Mr. I don't like homeless people questioning glare was cutting me from across the table. Luckily, Kevin spoke up.
"So Elizabeth,where are you from?"
My eyes met with brown curious ones. "I'm from Crystal Heights". His eyes widened and his mouth formed a little 'o'.
"No way!". His voice echoed in the room. Marie and Craig just listened.
"Yes way".
He looked at me with a clearly elated expression on his beautifully chiseled face.
Why is he so happy??
"I heard that in winter there's a beautiful display of ice carvings up there of anything you can think of. I've seen some pictures but I bet they're nothing compared to seeing it from your own eyes. It's like ice paradise."
He paused as if contemplating something, then continued," I'm sure if I saw it first hand I'd never want to leave".
My heart pained me but I kept my face straight. I remembered that festival and he's right, it was a sight to behold. But the reason I left was to forget about everything there. Forget about my parent's death.
"I'm sure you would, it's pretty cold up there", I said trying to sway from the topic. He just shrugged and finished his meal.
After breakfast, I headed straight outside from the glares Craig gave me. It's like he's waiting for me to go off or something. But as I reached the door I heard Marie's voice calling after me.
" Elizabeth where are you going?", I spun around to see her and Kevin looking my way. My cheeks warmed a bit.
"I was just going to get some fresh air".
"I have something better.", she smiled," Let's go shopping. You look like you need it".
I sure wasn't expecting that but I'm not putting that down.
"Sure. Thanks".
"Great. C'mon Kevin." He blinked a few times at her as she grabbed her coat." Honey we're going out brb!".
Craig didn't answer. Guess he's not in the talking mood today. The minute Marie opened the door, I was refreshed with the cold frosty morning air. I couldn't help but sigh as I relished the feeling. I found Kevin looking quizzically at me then quickly averted his to eyes to Marie taking the car out the garage. I almost thought for a second that I saw him blush or maybe it was the cold air stinging his cheeks.
