"Alright Violet, you are the last project to present. Up to the front of the room you go." Mrs. Welborn stated, coldly. All the kids were looking at me now. I began to feel my lower lip quivering, why am I so sensitive and emotional? It's just our presentations, I thought. Slowly and unwillingly I went up to the front of the classroom, someone snickered in the back of the room and I felt my face get hot.
I attempt at clearing my throat and looks nervously down at my notecards, held by furiously shaky hands. Honestly, I felt as if my tongue was tied, so I shuffled around for awhile not knowing what to do.
"I chose t-to talk about William Shakespeare toda-", I muttered. At the back of the classroom I saw Millicent pretending to cry, wiping away tears and sobbing into her hands. Callie next to her mouthed something that she couldn't understand, but then she understood. "Crybaby" she mouthed, pointing to Millicent then towards me.
So I lost it, my eyes filled up with tears, blurring my vision. They spilled on the wooden floor, and squeezed through the cracks of my mouth, tasting like salt. Mrs. Welborn was too busy grading papers at the back of the room to notice. All of a sudden Callie and Millicent doubled over in laughter, " We can always count on Violet to be our local crybaby. " Everyone joined in, do they know how this feels? She asked herself.
I slammed the door open and ran through the hallways, out the door and into the playground. I saw a boy in the distance, but like that matters. I ran to the swings, sat down and cried, wishing everyone would just drown in my salty tears.
