If I treated you the way you treated me, I promise you would not stick around the way I do.

Josh drove through the night, but around seven am, he stopped at a small restaurant for breakfast.

"Sonny." Josh got out and climbed in the back. "Wake up."

Sonny's eyes fluttered open, and she had to resist the urge to flinch away from Josh when she saw him.

"I stopped to get breakfast," Josh said, trying his best to ignore her reactions. "That way you can change your clothes and do whatever else in the bathroom or something."

"Yeah, um," Sonny rubbed her eyes. "Just give me a minute."

"Mhm," Josh nodded. "I'll be outside."

Sonny picked up her phone from her side and called her father.

"Hey sweetie," her father, John, greeted her. "How are you?"

"Good," Sonny played with her necklace. "I'm in Illinois right now and we stopped for breakfast."

"Is Josh-"

"Stop," Sonny said. "I don't wanna talk about him right now. I just wanted to say that I miss you."

"We miss you too," he replied. "But we get worried sometimes."

"I'm fine," Sonny assured him. "I gotta go though. Josh is waiting."

"What do you want?" Josh asked as he looked scanned the menu.

"I'm not hungry." Sonny shook her head.

"Look," Josh leaned over the table a little. "I know you're upset, but-"

"No, you don't," Sonny told him. "You have no idea how I feel."

"But I know what I did was wrong."

"Do you, Josh?" Sonny have him an incredulous look. "You said that when I broke up with you."

"Sonny don't-" Josh put his hands over his face.

"Remember? When you had to apologize at my hospital bedside?"

"I remember you calling security to get me out."

"You threw me down the steps after I rejected you," Sonny recalled. "Of course I wanted you out."

"I already told you-"

"You told me it was an accident!"

Josh looked down and shook his head in shame.

"You gave me panic attacks and I called it love." Sonny's voice cracked before she took a twenty dollar bill from her jacket pocket and threw it on the table. "Just hurry up."

"My dad said that we could stay at a motel tonight."

"You actually wanna sleep with me?" Josh's face lit up.

"I'm not in the mood for your shit right now," Sonny shot him down. "Separate beds."
