Chapter 8 - First friend and the new friends
(Han Seong Yeon as Jazz)
The goddess gave a humourless smile which sent chills over everyone who saw it. She was almost glowing in her wrathful mode of the disrespected goddess. The gang looked scared now. They knew the stories of fiery nature of the provoked goddess only too well. Nimendran's face looked pale and his hand trembled slightly. Even Armesh held his breath though he knew her anger was not directed him. He was not scared of her, but rather fascinated. She was some woman.
Ultimately the prince turned and almost fled their class with his goons at his heels. The whole class let out a relieved breath as one. Neha took a deep breath as well.
"Wow, you are so cool goddess!" called one of the girls who were sitting right behind her. She gave her a thumbs up when Neha looked at her. She was a foreign student who was dressed in jeans and a button up top. Neha knew she was trying to muster the courage to talk to her a couple of times and she was happy the girl finally did. She gave her a warm smile. Then she sat down and she and Armesh settled back into their usual silence.
Armesh looked at her when lecture was wrapping up. "The spirit of the goddess must be proud. You spoke like a true goddess."
Neha glanced at him side ways through her long eye lashes and gave him a small smile. Armesh grinned, having a gut feeling that she appreciated his compliment. His silent communication abilities were improving!
"You are the living goddess. You are not a statue which they can control as they please. I hope that fact reached those thick heads."
Neha's eyes got a faraway look. "But I am like a statue most of the time... aren't I?"
"Only an idiot would think that," Armesh scoffed.
Neha looked at him with questioning eyes.
"You are just very skilled at masking your emotions... and yourself. And not everyone seem to lift the veil to encounter the real you," Armesh shrugged. He was thinking of Damini as he said that. But the goddess's cheeks tinted pink because she knew he himself had achieved the feat.
"Make sure to file the complaint," she changed the topic. Reminder of the gang made her grimace.
"Do you know who the gang leader was, Neha?" Armesh was suddenly curious.
Neha frowned. She was pensive for a several minutes. Then she titled her head mildly intrigued. "Why should I know him?"
"Oh dear, poor fellow's heart would have broken if he heard that," Armesh said in a gleeful tone, which indicated that he was not a bit sad at the prospect.
Neha's frown deepened.
"He is the crown prince's younger brother."
A few minutes silence.
"I know the crown prince." As if that solves everything!
Armesh remembered that the crown prince was one of those who could receive the blessings from the touch of the living goddess. He suddenly felt a little envious towards his friend.
"You know Nirajan... you have spoken to him?"
Neha nodded. "A little. Probably the only boy I have spoken to... apart from you of course," she chuckled.
Armesh raised an eyebrow.
"It just struck me we have spoken quite a bit," an amused gleam entered the goddess's eyes. "You wanted to be friends. I think you got your wish, Armesh."
