Chapter 10 - Revenge plan gone wrong
Armesh was to experience first hand the cause of the goddess's disgruntlement the moment he stepped into their class the next day. Two guards were standing at the classroom door running a security check on everyone who entered and several more were standing at the front of the classroom, blocking his path to the goddess.
"Hey, can you move? That is where I sit," Armesh tried to shove off a guard.
"You are not allowed to sit close to the goddess," the guard shoved him back.
"Who are you to tell me where I am to sit or not?" Armesh challenged.
"These are king's orders. It is for the protection of our goddess!"
"This is a ridiculous!" Armesh grunted. "I am the one who saved your goddess you know? I am coming back after spending couple of weeks in hospital after taking a knife for her! So I don't think you have a right to order me around."
"Oh yes, we do," said the maliciously triumphant voice of the official friend of the goddess Armesh disliked the most. "I haven't forgotten that the goddess went to the rooftop that day because you called her there..."
Armesh clenched his fists. "What the heck are you saying right now?"
"Everybody else may think you are a hero, but I have my suspicious, you see," Hashera said gleefully. "I am not to be fooled that easily, Armesh."
The goddess stood up at this moment. "That is enough, Hashera!"
Hashera looked at her disdainfully. "With all due respect, goddess Neha, allow me to remind you that you have no authority in this matter. The priests and his royal highness took these measures to ensure your safety and they put me in charge. Because of your recent careless behaviour, may I remind you that your judgment was clearly decided as not to be trusted?"
Neha gritted her teeth. Hashera grinned in delight. Armesh looked around in disbelief to see everyone else in the class looking like they wanted to slap her on the face, but keeping quiet helplessly.
The goddess spoke after a minute, staring into a friend's eyes with a dangerous glint her own orbs. "I may have no say in the matters of security, but I would not allow you to accuse my friends so recklessly. Pray do not forget, whatever authority you may get you are still just a bodyguard. I am the goddess. I have the heaven's mandate!"
Grin slipped off Hashera's face. Her face turned grey. Armesh chuckled inwardly. Meanwhile Neha looked at him, her grim look softening as she met his eyes.
"My apologies for the grave insult of my ignorant friend. I hope you can forgive her."
"Sure thing, goddess. Wickedness has no cure after all," Armesh smirked.
"Shut up!" Hashera snapped at him. "I don't need forgiveness on anything. How dare you call me ignorant goddess?"
"What else should I call you when you are speaking so arrogantly with partial knowledge of what happened? You were unconscious before my friends entered the rooftop. You know nothing of what took place there that day save the initial attack," Neha said rather innocently, making Hashera go silent abruptly.
Armesh grinned.
"But I am sorry Armesh. The security arrangements are as she said and I have no say in the matter. So you have to sit at the back with Jazz and them," the goddess said sadly, making Armesh's face go gloomy like a rainy sky. He turned towards his other friends to see Jazz glaring ahead with a murderous look in her face.
"Urgh, I hate that witch. Acting so high and mighty," she muttered under her breath as Armesh sat down next to her.
"Did I miss something?" Armesh whispered to Melidi who was sitting on his other side.
