Sasuke-kun and I settled in the encampment for the night, making use of whatever provisions that were accessible to us; yet sadly we couldn’t make a fire under which we could warm ourselves with in case someone noticed the smoke. Since I was travelling with Sasuke-kun who had made his name known to be that of a criminal’s, we had to stay as hidden as possible so he wouldn’t get caught and possibly killed. Though I gathered my cloak instead and tried to warm myself up as best as I could while I was eating - even if it was pretty much insignificant.
"We’ll travel in shelter of the trees for the time being until we leave the Fire Country; by then, my name shouldn’t be as well known." Sasuke-kun said as he rolled out the bed rolls that those men from Iwagakure had.
"Ho-how far away is this te-temple that Kabuto s-spoke of?" I wondered, my words being broken by my shivering of the cool night air. Sasuke-kun looked at me for a split second, like he was going to say something, but then his thoughts battled against it and he ended up not saying anything for a moment.
He sighed through his nose as he said, "It’s in the Earth Country."
I was shocked at this, "Wh-what?! But yo-you said it was just north of here! It wi-will take days to get th-there!" Sasuke-kun scratched his hairline in, what seemed like, annoyance; which ultimately ruffled his hair up a bit which made me stare at him until I noticed that I was gawking quite obviously at him. Blushing, I took my eyes off him and peered down at my half-eaten food while biting on my lip.
"I know, but I was hesitant to tell you how far away it was exactly, in case the idea made you end up not helping me. Yet, that’s why we must leave by the first sign of light tomorrow." Sasuke-kun answered looking directly at me. It was at this moment that I happened to meet with those deep onyx eyes. It had been awhile since I looked at his eyes for so long; but for some reason, at this moment, it felt like it was just yesterday. My heart began to race and I willed it to calm itself somehow, but... then again, I wanted to indulge in this feeling. So I allowed myself; I allowed my heart to fall back into that fantasy that believed at one point that Sasuke-kun was the man who I loved and would, one day, love me as well.
It was much too sad that reality got in the way.
Sasuke-kun couldn’t care less about me; if he could find a way to care less about my existence, he would most likely go out of his way to do so. That explained why he left me on that bench so long ago, that explained why he was always so cold to me, that explained why he sought power more than my love, and that also explained why Sasuke-kun only found me now to use me for my prowess in medical ninjutsu.
Then why did he save me from those creepy Iwagakure ninjas? If he didn’t care he wouldn’t have bothered himself to help, not only that, but he could just as easily find another better medical ninja. It was me he sought out for; he saved me because he knew I was in trouble and didn’t hesitate to help. I frowned at where my thoughts were heading, especially after I tried so hard to rebuke the thought that Sasuke-kun had any sort of feelings for me. Though... my thoughts did have a point; perhaps this was my golden opportunity to win Sasuke-kun. I was much more useful than I used to be, albeit, by a questionable difference; I was older and perhaps more appealing to him than before and I was also here to save his very life. I smiled at the thought while bringing my knees up to my chin. I knew I shouldn’t get my mind thinking crazy things, but you never know what may end up happening.
"Sakura, you should rest soon; we’ve got to be able to get up early." Sasuke-kun told me, breaking me out of my thoughts.
"Yeah, I u-understand." I replied, but then a question popped into my head, "Um... Sa-Sasuke-kun...?" He didn’t give me any semblance at whether or not he heard me, but something told me he was listening, "Wh-what did you do to Kabuto to ma-make him so upset with you th-that he placed this ju-jutsu on you?"
