When I wake up, the sun is shining directly in my face, blinding me. I groan, cursing the sun and it's blinding glow, and step out of my bed and onto the soft carpeting. It's a little chilly so I haphazardly pull a sweater out of my suitcase and struggle into it.
Tired me is definitely not the best version of me. It's closely followed by drunk me.
When I emerge from my room, I see Dodie sitting at the dining room table, sipping her tea calmly.
"G'morning, Dodie." I greet monotonically. Dodie looks up from her tea and smiles kindly. Dodie is already dressed, she's already in her makeup, and her hair is curled. When she looks up the curls bounce about her shoulders playfully.
"Good morning, Luna. Did you sleep well last night? You were out cold." Dodie asks, taking another sip of her green tea.
"I slept all right I guess. The bed in my room is one of the most comfortable things I've had the pleasure of sleeping." I answer, sliding into the plush cushioned seat next to Dodie. She chuckles a little at what I had said.
"That's wonderful! So, Evan and I are meeting up with Chris today because we've been planning a welcome home party for you, and Chris is helping get the food from the caterer, and he's helping us set up. Do you want to come with us?" Dodie asks. I scoff at her. As if it's even a question!
"Of course! I haven't seen Chris in ages! What kind of food are you getting?" I reply, clapping my hands a little in excitement. Along with Dodie and Evan, Chris has always been dear to me, as he was one of my first Internet friends. I haven't seen him since last Vidcon, though, which was almost five months ago now.
"Fantastic! We'll get breakfast with him first, so you don't need to eat anything right now, if you aren't dying of hunger. Why don't you go get ready while I wake up Evan?" Dodie says and I nod, turning back to get dressed.
"Oh, and if you hear Evan scream, it's because I dumped cold water on his head." Dodie smirks.
"Nice, Dodie. Aren't you just this sweetest thing?" I respond and flounce off to my bedroom, softly closing the door behind me. I reach for my phone and turn on the Hamilton soundtrack, and quietly sing along as I dress myself.
I pull of yesterdays clothes that I didn't bother changing out of last night, and grab a red and black, plaid, sleevless shift dress with black collar. I slide that up and over my head - with no difficulty this time - and put on some black knit tights, to accompany the dress.
"I'm not throwin' away my shot!" I sing along quietly as I apply some makeup to my face. It's not much; just eyeliner, mascara, foundation, concealer, and blush, but it's what I normally wear.
Just as I finish up, a blood curtling scream fills the flat.
"WHAT THE HELL, DODIE? WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?" I hear Evan shout. I giggle as Dodie apologizes, choking on her laughter. Evan begrudgingly accepts the apology.
I curl my hair in loose little ringlets. I feel like my hair looks really nice when curled because it makes my straight brown hair look more exciting, and it also shows off the natural highlights in my hair.
I grab my purse and put my phone inside of it. I brace myself for leaving my room, the possibility of a soaking wet Evan attacking me looming above me.
"I'm ready to go whenever!" I cheerfully announce as I enter the kitchen. Dodie and Evan are waiting for me, Dodie smirking and Evan rubbing a towel on his hair.
"What happened to you, Ev?" I ask teasingly. Evan rolls his eyes at me.
"What does it look like happened? Dodie here dumped a pint of ice cold water on me! It wasn't exactly the best splash into my day!" Evan laughs at his own pun.
"See what I have to deal with?! The puns are terribly deadly!" Dodie exclaims, clutching her heart as if she's dying. I laugh at her and the dramatic reaction she provided.
"Let's get going before we kill each other brutally in a terribly long, drawn out pun battle." I demand and open up the front door to our front door motioning for my friends to exit the vicinity. We all walk out in a single file line, as if we were first graders - Evan in front, me in the middle, then Dodie.
When we've exited to flat we take a right and Dodie and Evan both take the stairs down to what I assume is the entrance to the underground. When we get down, Dodie and Evan scan their Oyster Cards while I purchase one.
The Oyster Card that I got is purple and has a nebula pattern on it. I scan the Oyster Card and join Evan and Dodie on the platform entering the train. When the train arrives we slide into the train and sit down.
"So who did you invite to this mystery party?" I question, breaking minutes of silence.
"Well, we're inviting Chis, PJ, Dan, Phil - I'm sure you've met them before - Zoe, Charlie, Louise, and Carrie. We didn't want to invite a lot of people. We know how much you don't like so much commotion." Evan says. I smile to myself. They invited some of my closest friends, who I haven't seen since Vidcon.
"Thank you guys so much for putting all of this together. You really didn't have to put together a party for me!" I exclaim grasping them both in a hug. Sometimes I feel like my friends are far too good to me. But then I remember that I do the same thing for them.
"But we wanted to! Also, we got your favorite foods for the catering. Fettuccini alfredo and bratwurst, just to name a few." Dodie says kindly.
"Thanks so much!" I say again. I'm extremely grateful for them. I couldn't ask for better friends.
Serveral minutes later it's our stop. We get off the underground and climb up the stairs that lead to the streets above us. When we emerge and enter the concrete jungle, I notice that it's beginning to rain. Luckily, we're pretty close to where we're going to meet Chris so we only have to walk about a block until we reach our destination.
"Last one there is a rotten egg!" Evan shouts and we race the entire way to the business. The wind is in my hair, rain falling around me. I love it. It reminds of the days when my neighbors and I would play tag outside in the rain, just because we could.
"Ha! I win!" Dodie exclaims and does a little victory dance.
"Well I got in second! First is the worst, second is the best!" I reply, smirking a bit because I hadn't used that poem for a really long time. I turn to Evan. "Wait, how did you not win? You have the longest legs!" I ask him.
"That, honestly, is a good question." Evan replies as we walk into the catering service. My eyes skim the store, searching for Chris. After a few seconds, I see him.
"Hey, Chris!" I say and motion him over to us. Chris smiles, waves, and walks over to us.
"Hey Luna! It's been so long, how've you been? Did you have a nice flight?" Chris says, a smile growing on his face.
"I've been well! The flight was wonderful, thank you so much for asking. How've you been?"
"I've been great! Shall we get the food?" Chris asks and we all nod. We stride up to the counter. "Order for Kendall?" Chris says to the waitress behind the counter.
"Alright-y! Let me go get your food!" The lady says. After looking at her name tag I see her name is Kittie. After about a minute, she comes back with our orders of food.
"Thank you so much!" I say and she nods at me. We take the food out of the shop. Evan and Chris carry it out to Chris' car.
"I'm going to ride with Chris. I'll meet both of you back at the flat with the food." Evan says and gets in Chris' car.
And with that, Dodie and I make our way to the tube.
