"WHAT!?" Naruto asked in shock, jumping up and down. "SHE'S GONE! BUT HOW!? I MEAN HOW!? I JUST SAW HER THE OTHER DAY! SHE WOULD NEVER GO BACK TO THAT PLACE- THAT DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE!"
"NARUTO!" Iruka shouted to interrupt his ceaseless shouting. "Calm down! You're going to cause a panic!"
"WHY DID NOBODY TELL ME!? WE HAVE TO HELP HER! QUICK! TELL THE OLD LADY!"
"Hush!" Iruka said, glancing around the road. Several shopping passersby stopped to give Naruto odd looks, but that in itself was nothing out of the ordinary.
"How was I supposed to know you weren't aware of this? All of the other ninjas are. You really need to get out more," he muttered.
Naruto's eye twitched before he erupted in shouts again. "WHAT ARE YOU TALKIN' ABOUT 'GETTING OUT MORE'?- I'M TRAINING ALL THE TIME! I'M NOT A KID ANYMORE! HOW DARE YOU EVEN QUESTION MY DETERMINATION!? I NEVER GIVE UP! THAT IS NOT MY NINJA WAY! I CAN'T BELIEVE-"
"ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT- CALM DOWN!" Iruka interrupted, shaking the boy by his shoulders. He didn't let him go until Naruto promised not to should again.
Naruto scratched the back of his head. "Well, when do we start?" he asked expectantly.
"Start?" Iruka asked in confusion.
"The mission to rescue her," Naruto said as if it were obvious.
Iruka sighed. "Naruto, the Hokage is not sending squads out after Erika."
Naruto's face went red. "What?" he asked.
"Kakashi and Katsu have already gone after her."
"WHAT!?"
"Naruto!"
"But I'm a part of their squad too! I can't believe they left me!"
"I'm sure it wasn't personal," Iruka said, not having realized how upset Naruto would be about the situation. "They only left alone because they had to act quickly. Tsunade never gave them permission to leave. In fact, she forbade it. They had to leave during the hours of the night or Erika would be on her own."
Naruto crossed his arms. He grumbled, "I suppose that's not completely unreasonable, but still! I don't wanna sit back and do nothing!"
"You won't," Iruka said patiently. "You still have responsibilities here."
Naruto groaned.
"Oh, come on." Realizing that he would eventually regret his next decision, Iruka said, "The other two kids still need a trainer. Wanna help me take up that responsibility?"
Naruto raised his eyebrows. "Sasori's sister and Kabuto's brother?" He paused before punching the air. "BELIEVE IT!"
