Chapter 1

The leaves bristled in the light breeze as Anjela stood in the woods, waiting for something. The sky was grey with clouds, and the little animals that lived in the trees ran up and down the bark.

It had been over a year since the war ended, and Anjela was relieved that the blues and reds had become close allies over the months. But unfortunately, a new problem came about that had all of the wolves become concerned. The modern werewolves were disappearing one by one, and Anjela had a feeling that the people were behind it. Since Logan had told her that someone had known about them, she decided it would be best if they didn't tell anyone, for the innocent normals' sake.

A twig snapped from behind her, and she spun around to attack her friend. She didn't bother turning into her wolf as she lunged at her, grabbing Bella's elbows. Bella stumbled back and fell beneath her, her green eyes flashing blue.

Bella kicked out her legs and hit Anjela in the gut, but she only flinched in pain before putting her hand to her throat, pressing on it gently. Her friend then lashed out at her face, a hard slap stinging her cheek. Anjela gasped and backed away, holding her cheek. Bella then jumped up and shoved her to the ground, placing her right foot on her throat.

"You win again." Anjela rasped, almost struggling to breath with the pressure.

Bella lifted her foot and shook her head with disapproval. "How many more times am I going to beat you before you actually get good at it?"

Anjela stood up and scratched her head. "Why are we training like this again?" she asked.

"Well, if those people are really the ones kidnapping the wolves, we need to be able to defend ourselves in human form just in case they find a way to stun our wolf form." She replied.

She laughed. "I see that to be very unlikely."

Bella shrugged. "Better safe than sorry. Who knows what kind of knowledge these people have?"

A beep sounded from Anjela's phone. She took it out of her pocket and read a text message from Dianna.

Just found out that the police are at Piper's house. I'm going over to check it out. Wanna come?

Anjela typed in a reply, her heart beating a little faster.

Did Piper return? She thought hopefully as she pressed send.

I'm on my way.

She tucked in her phone and glanced at Bella. "I have to go. The police are at Piper's house."

Bella raised an eyebrow. "You don't think she could be back, do you?"

She nodded. "I hope so. Her family's been worried about her."

Her friend looked at her doubtfully. "The only thing is that she was one of the first ones to go missing. No one's returned since then." She reminded her.

"I know. But it doesn't mean she won't return."

As Anjela turned to leave, Bella turned into her wolf, her white pelt glossy in the grey day. "Let me come with you, then. If Piper really has returned, we can ask her if she's seen my mother."

She nodded, turning into her wolf. A couple weeks back, Bella's mother had disappeared too, and it made her friend worry. Piper, on the other hand, disappeared four months after the war. And next week would mark a year since her disappearance.

They both sprinted out of the woods together, the breeze ruffling their fur. And as they picked up speed, they felt like they were running on air. Soon enough the two came to a stop after ten minutes or so, catching their breath.
