Chapter 3
(Anjela's POV)
Anjela lead two of her pack members into the forest, her paws feeling the soft earth. Scarlet and Isaac were trailing behind her, their coats shimmering the moonlight. The air was cold, and the trees scorched high above them.
Earlier today, Anjela and Diana went to the police department and got the blood samples tested. Unfortunately, the blood only belonged to Piper's family, and now they were back to square one. Whoever was responsible for all the lost wolves seemed to know what he or she was doing. Always managing to cover their tracks before a missing report was filed.
"I can't wait to make a kill!" Isaac told them with determination in his voice, "The wild chase just gives me such a thrill."
Scarlett stuck her tounge out in digust. "I don't care for the taste for raw flesh. I'm a vegetarian. I'll just help kill and skip the meal if that's alright with you, Anjela."
Anjela gave her a brief glance. "Of course. As long as you help uphold the tradition by killing I think it'll be fine."
Isaac shook his head. "If Alex hadn't said no to joing us, I think you would be tasting meat wether you wanted to or not. Not every wolf is okay with someone skipping on a part of tradition."
Anjela had originally asked Alex over the phone to join the hunting party a little earlier, hoping to discuss the missing wolves, but he had said he already promised his friend to join their hunting group instead. She was dissappointed, but at least she could try to take her mind off of it instead for the night.
Scarlett snorted. "I could have told them I had an allergy."
"Allergic to meat? Like anyone would believe that."
Suddenly a snap of a twig caught their attention, and Anjela's ears twitched. All of them froze and stayed silent, waiting to hear another noise. A moment ticked by before they heard something bump into the bushes to the west of them, and Anjela slowly went towards it. Once she carefully weaved her way through the undergrowth, she could see an elk feeding on the vegetation, its large antlers barely grazing the grass. She waited for the other two to get in position, and once they were ready, she leaped in front of it.
The elk raised it's head in alarm and tried to back away, but to its surprise Isaac was waiting on the other side, baring his teeth. Scarlett then made an appearance on the left side, a vicious snarl coming from her mouth. Startled, the elk raised it's two front hooves and slammed them down on the forest floor, making Anjela jump back in caution. It then ran east, all of them starting to chase it from close behind.
The three of them pushed for their paws to go faster, and eventually Isaac was the first to grab hold of one its hind legs, his sharp teeth making the elk howl in pain. It slowed a bit as Scarlett went in for one of the front hooves, but as she bit down the elk violently hit her with its horns, causing her shriek in pain and fall to the ground.
Isaac immediately let go to help Scarlett as Anjela lunged at the throat, but missed. She too fell to the ground and watched as the prey ran to safety, leaving a thin trail of blood behind.
"Dammit." she cursed under breath before getting up, shaking dust from her pelt.
She then turned her attention towards Scarlett, who was still laying on the ground, Isaac by her side. She rushed over and stopped by her injured pack mate.
"Are you okay?" Isaac asked, his voice concerned.
Scarlett coughed. "Just dandy."
She then slowly rose to her paws, her balance unsteady for a moment. It revealed a long cut along her silver coat from where the antlers hit her, and she winced in pain.
