Chapter 4

(Alex's POV)

Alex licked blood the blood off his snout as he finished off what he could from the dead doe, his stomach  full. He, Zach, and Wally were on the south side of the forest, and the full moon illuminated the dark sky. They had finally made their kill for the night, but as they were hunting, they spotted something unusual. After about an hour in the hunt, they found a net trap laced with silver.

As soon as they found it, Alex tried calling Anjela, but to his surprise she didn't pick up.

"That deer was delicious!" Wally exclaimed with delight, licking his jaws.

"Alright,we've made our kill for the night," Alex said with an impatient tone, "Now can we go and find Anjela? I'm worried she or any other member got caught in one of those traps."

Zach glanced at him in annoyance."I'm pretty sure she's okay." he promised, "Her phone's probably dead, anyway."

"You don't know that."

He rolled his red eyes. "I'm not even worried about my sister or mother. Because I know they can take care of themselves."

"Oh, but they can't when your father's around?" he pressed.

Zach tensed."I'd rather not talk about that." he snapped.

"How about we just go find your twin, okay?" Wally suggested, coming in between them.

Alex sighed."Yeah, I guess we should go ahead before we lose track of time. I don't what I would do if she went missing."

They wandered through the woods in silence, heading back to the town limits. The plan was to search the north side of the forest for Anjela, and as time slipped by Wally yawned, the light gray wolf drooping his head in tiredness.

"I'm going to head home." Wally told the two, "That party I went to last night really drained me."

Alex glanced at him. "You're not going to help find Anjela?"

He shook his head. "Sorry. Sleep is more important to me right now. See you around, Zach."

Zach turned his head. "Yeah, see you later. Watch out for those traps."

With that Wally left, leaving the two alone to find Alex's sister. They both walked in silence, and after a while Alex cocked his head towards his friend.

"Look, um,I'm sorry about earlier. I didn't mean to say that. It slipped."

Zach didn't bother looking at him. "No sweat, man. I know you're worried."

"You don't want to give me a bro punch?" he asked, confused.

Bro punching was a thing they shared in their friendship. Every time they did something the other person didn't like, they would give them a hard punch in the shoulder to even it out. It was weird, but the two had to admit that it seemed to make them feel somewhat better.

"Nah,"he replied, "At least not now. Maybe later when you're not concerned about your sister."

As they were nearing the edge of the south side of the forest, Alex stopped and perked his ears. He could hear talking in the distance. Zach stopped too as his ears twitched.

"Do you hear that?" Zach whispered.

He nodded."Maybe a group decided to search here for prey." he suggested.

He shook his head. "I only hear two voices. Groups only hunt in three."

They went towards the direction of the noise, and after a moment Alex picked up the scent of death. He scrunched his nose up in disgust as his heart paced a little faster. He hadn't picked up that smell in a while.
