Despite his expectations, it didn't take long for Horace to find Will and Maddie.
He'd only been riding for half an hour before he could clearly see Tug racing toward Biter.
Will slowed Tug to a walk when he reached Horace, who'd also slowed Biter.
"Will!" Horace yelled as he approached the Ranger. Then he saw Maddie. She was behind Will, her arms wrapped around him limply. And her head rested on his back, her eyes closed. But at the sound of her father's voice, she opened them drowsily.
"D-Dad?" She mumbled.
"Horace, she's losing a lot of blood in that leg." Will said, his voice pained. "She walked on it to find me and then she had to walk back to the hill on it-"
"I'm-" Maddie cut in, but she didn't finish her sentence. Horace could tell she was about to say "fine" but something stopped her.
"She needs to get home. Now." Will told Horace. He nodded and reached down from Biter to grab Maddie.
"What are you-" Will started, but Horace continued to pull Maddie up and over to him as he said, "It will be faster and safter if she doesn't have to hold onto anyone. I'll carry her. Plus, this makes it easier on Tug."
Will nodded and sent Tug into a gallop back toward the castle. Horace pulled Maddie across his lap, longways. Her head rested on his strong shoulder.
"Dad..." She breathed.
"Shh, Maddie. I'm here now. It's okay." He replied softly.
"Dad I-"
Horace kissed his daughter on the forehead. "Maddie, I've got you." He said as a tear rolled down his cheek. "Everything is alright."
He held her tightly as he sent Biter after Tug and raced for home.

Alright, so the "last chapter" is coming up soon. I could continue the story and make it just continue with Maddie's life, or I could just put an epilogue and end it. Which do you guys prefer?
