Chapter One: Roses are Red, Ms. Marshall is Blue

Daniela's POV*

I'M STUCK IN A JAR.

How'd you get yourself stuck in a jar?

Please, don't ask me that. I honestly can't answer that myself. I tried to control my breathing, but I couldn't. My chest rose up and down rapidly at an incredibly fast pace. Whenever I found myself in that situation, I tried to do what Alex always told me to do, close my eyes and count backwards. It never fully helped, but it did help me calm down. I started to wipe the sweat that was forming on my forehead. I could feel it getting hot in here.

I started to bang my shoulder into the glass of the jar, trying to bust myself out. I could feel the floor around me starting to vibrate. Two big giant feet stomped into my vision, making me stumble back in fear.

One of the pairs of big feet lowered on to its knee and chuckled at my fear. His face was ugly and contorted into a grin, showing off his disgusting and uneven teeth.

"You know, they'll never come for you. None of them care about you, Ares."

Ares?

I looked down at myself and noticed I wasn't even myself. I was wearing gladiator sandals and I was in full battle armor and a red cape. A red feather plumed gladiator helmet was on my head, and a sword was strapped to my waist.

"You hate it in there, don't you?" The giant said. "Being all cooped up in there, feeling the walls close in on you. You expected your family to come into action to save you. But they're not."

I tried to tune him out, but I couldn't help but listen. I had a family and no one cared about me?

"Please, let me out," I managed to croak. "I didn't do anything wrong."

The second giant picked up the jar I was in, and I tried to find something to hold on to, but I realized that was nothing. He brought the jar up to his face and started shaking it vigorously. I could feel the walls starting to close on me, and I knew I wouldn't make it. I felt a wave of nausea pass over me, and I stumbled over, clutching onto my stomach. "You claim that you've done nothing wrong?" He rolled his eyes.

He opened up the jar, but then closed it up again. I wanted to get out, but I couldn't. I felt my panic disappear as he closed it again, tight.

The giant started to laugh at me as I crumpled down on my knees and start to hyperventilate. I could've sworn my whole life was passing before me. I felt my whole body staring to shake out of fear, and I felt my blood pressure increase—

"Kill me." I said, my body jumping up and my eyes darting open.

"Daniela?" Mr. Brunner said. I rubbed my eyes and see Mr. Brunner by the board with a stern look. I was gladly not stuck in a jar, but stuck in a class—my Latin class.

"I'm sorry, what was the question?" I yawned.

"The question was about Ares." He said. Mr. Brunner was paralyzed from the waist down, and he always smelled of coffee beans. His scraggly brown beard now has some gray hairs growing from it.
