"Coffee?" Darren proposed to you from the kitchen. "No thanks" you mumbled and kept your eyes on your phone. The doctor was supposed to call. Does that meant it's bad if she didn't? It was definitely bad, you decided. Darren sat silently a few chairs away from you. He was holding his own cup of coffee and looked at you worriedly. "She's gonna call" he tried to reassure you. You put your head on your hands and breathed out. The sun was lighting up the whole house, a fresh, nice air was floating around and the silence was so loud. You could almost count the beats of your heart. When the phone finally rang, you shot a wide eyed look at Darren and bit your lips nervously before answering.
You put the phone on speaker so he could hear too. "Hello?" you said. Your hands were shaking so much, you fought to keep your voice steady. "Mrs Criss?" the doctor called out. "Yes" you replied. "I have your results back and they're clear" she said casually. Darren got off his chair and breathed out loudly. His hands were covering his face as he turned to the window. "I'm gonna give you some medication, but it's nothing major. Just try to escape stress and rest as much as you can and you'll be fine. Nothing to worry about" she argumented. "Thanks" you sniffed. "I'll make sure my secretary calls you for your next appointement, okay? Have a nice day!" she rushed. "Thank you so much, bye" you had the time to say before she hung up. You looked at the ceiling and closed your eyes in relief. End of nightmare. At least to one of them. Darren still had his back to you. You rubbed your hands and got up. "Darren?" you called out for him.
He turned to you and hurried to catch you in his arms. Your two bodies were suddenly flushed together as he pressed you against him and put his arms around you. He was crying, for sure. You were a little taken back by the gesture, but you eventually hugged back. "It's okay, Dare" you whispered and rubbed his back. "Don't ever scare me like that again" he said into your neck. You chuckled and felt the tears flooding down your face. "I'm okay" you repeat and rubbed your hand up and down his back. He pulled back a little to take your face in his hands "I love you so much, y/n. You and I, we will figure this out, right?" he asked with his pleading eyes. You look through them, searching for any kind of dishonesty. But you couldn't find it. And you didn't want to. "Yeah, we'll be okay" you said and put your hand over his. "I don't ever wanna lose you" he admitted as tears runned down his cheeks. His voice kept cracking. It broke your heart. "We'll get through this" you assured him and brushed his tears. He kissed you, his lips strong and loving against your lips, and his hand on your neck. Once you pulled back, you saw all his care and love for you. He pulled apart completely and brushed the rest of his tears. "I uhm..." he stuttered, "I should get my stuff". You simply nodded and watched his rush into the house to get his bag again.
It was the first time that you felt like he really was sincere and it had been so long. You remembered all those days of pure hurt you felt all alone and all the days you felt loved next to him. You had no idea how you thought about not spending the rest of your life with him. Everybody makes mistakes and this one was going to be one you made. But you'll grow with it. You'll grow even stronger and closer. Of course, it won't be all roses and rainbows at first, but you will make it through. He's the love of your life. And there is no one else you wanted to be with. You took your phone and asked Chuck to bring the kids back to the house. You watched Darren go back and forth to put some stuff in his travel bag without saying a word. It made you sad that he thought you didn't want him to stay, but you guessed he had all the right to think that. He shot you a few smiles along his way.
Darren put his bag in the hall and looked at you before you heard the car parking in front of the house. You smiled at the window and turned your smile to Darren. You opened the front door and soon enough, two little pieces of you were running into your open arms. "Mommy!" They shouted in unison. You hugged them tight as Sami looked at Darren behind you, who was looking at his brother with a confused face. "Mommy, did you find a way?" she whispered loudly. You smiled. "Yes, we did honey" you kissed her forehead. The little girl jumped around happily at your response. Kyle was hugging Darren's legs when you turned to him. "I'll leave you guys alone. I think you need it" Chuck suggested. You nodded thankfully and waved him goodbye. You close the door behind the kids and turned to your husband, who still wearing a confused look on his face.
"Kyle, why don't you put Daddy's bag in our room?" you proposed. The little boy grinned at the responsability and attempted to lift it. "Urgh! It's heavy!" he whined. Sami ran to him and helped him lift it up to bring it into your room; both of them disappearing on the hallway. "What's going on? We found a way? A way to what?" Darren frowned. You smiled fondly at him. "We found a way to be happy again" you revealed. You kissed him before he could say anything else and quickly his hands found your waist. "Don't get your hopes up though" you said as you pulled apart, "You're still sleeping on the couch tonight". You pecked his lips as he had the biggest smile on his face. "Bummer" he grinned. You shrugged and shot him an innoncent look as you walked to join the kids in your room. Happy. Everything will be okay now.
