David's POV
I had received a worried call about Drew and Jayk from Blake. I went to the hospital and I was sitting in the waiting room with TC and Blake. "Where's Sam?" I asked, breaking the silence.
"I think she went back to the BAU to find the guy," Blake nodded.
Her team walked in, but no Sam. "Is Sam here?" asked Hotch.
"I thought she was with you guys," I looked at him.
"She took her car to the BAU but she left after that," Morgan replied. "She never stopped by to talk to us."
"When was the last time you heard from her?" JJ asked.
"She left Kohl's in a hurry after Jayk got shot to go and catch the guy," Blake responded. "That's the last time I talked to her. I assumed she was goes to see you guys."
"Last thing she told us was she's going o see you guys," Reid replied.
"Now we have a missing agent on our hands," Rossi sighed.
"She's not considering missing until twenty four hours," Hotch nodded. "Let's not panic."
"We have a third gunshot victim coming through!" stated a medic. "Female, at least twenty two, blonde hair hazel eyes." He stopped at the nurses counter as they pushed the gurney along. I swore it was Sam but it couldn't be. She's amazing at her job. The guy lowered his voice. "Kathy, get this. The third victim, I think she may have been trying to make an arrest. She's an agent for the Bureau."
"Excuse me," Hotch walked up to the counter. He showed his badge. "Special Agent Aaron Hotchner. May I ask what her name is?"
"Yeah," the medic nodded as he looked at the papers on his file. "Her credentials said she's Samaria Marie Scott." As soon as I heard her name, I went pale white. "Gunshot to the left leg and left shoulder. She's lucky. Just two inches closer to the inside, bullet would've hit her heart."
Hotch walked back over to us. "Who is it?" Blake asked. I heard the conversation because I was closer to Hotch and the medic. Blake was sitting on the other side of the room. "Hotch?"
"It can't be," JJ sighed.
"I'm afraid it is," Hotch sighed. "The third victim is Sam."
"Is she okay?" Blake asked.
"We don't know," Hotch nodded. "As soon as they get out of surgery, we'll know." The three of them out of of surgery and the doctors gave us the okay to see them. "One of you is going to have to tell Drew his sister got shot."
"Why don't you?" I looked at Blake. "You and Drew are a lot closer than I am with him. "You might be the best person he hears the news from because he would think I'm playing with him. I was always the prankster when I was in VFC."
"Alright," Blake nodded. "TC, you stay with Jayk?"
"Yeah," TC sighed.
I went to Sam's room and sat down in the chair next to her bed. "Sam," I sighed. Her team walked in. JJ handed me a cup of coffee. "Thank you." JJ sent me a slight nod. "I guess you can't tell me what's going to happen to her job?"
"You're David, right?" Morgan asked.
"Yeah," I nodded. "I live with her."
"As far as we know, she'll be able to be on medical leave for six weeks or she can work from the office," Hotch sighed.
"She can't stay away," I replied. "Law enforcement is her life. When she was on tour the past four months, every little thing she noticed, she wanted to act on it." I looked at them. "I knew the minute she made her first arrest on tour, she'll have to go back to LAPD or start with the FBI. She didn't want to leave the tour, so I had to stop her." I looked at Sam. "I just don't understand, why today? She has done perfect about staying out the line of fire. She has a bulletproof car." I sighed. "I guess she forgot her vest."
"She'll have to go through a psych eval," Reid replied. "She can pass that with no problems. We wrote the questions."
Sam groaned. "Sam?" I asked as I stood up. I grabbed her hand. "Sammi?" She opened her eyes. "Hey."
"Did you just call me Sammi?" she asked, which her dry throat.
I smiled as she smiled. "Yeah," I nodded. I grabbed the cup of water off the table and let Sam take a drink. "You feeling okay?"
"Where am I?" she asked.
"Hospital," JJ replied. "Sam, what happened?"
"I followed the guy back to the BAU," Sam nodded. "I saw him taking the stairs in the third building away from the BAU. I followed. But he hid." She sighed. "I had my gun but he shot me first, in the leg. I fell down a flight of stairs and he shot me in the shoulder." She let a tear slip. "I laid there, letting him think I was dead."
"Baby girl, if we brought in a sketch artist do you -"
"Yes," Sam nodded as she cut Morgan off. "Anything to catch this guy who did this to the three of us."
"We'll bring him in later tonight," Hotch nodded and the team left.
"How's Drew?" Sam asked.
"You guys all made it out of surgery," I nodded. "But I think you're looking worst than they are."
"I got a beat up leg and arm," she sighed. "Looks like I'm not going to be working in the field for a while."
"Hotch says you can either stay home for six weeks after your release or do desk work from the office," I looked at her. "I prefer you be home where I can keep an eye on you but it's totally up to you."
"Yeah, why not," Sam agreed. "I'd like to see you do a couple things for me around the house."
I chuckled, "Alright." After two days, they released Sam, Drew, and Jayk. I got Sam into the wheelchair that I bought her and pushed her out. the rest of the guys were waiting in the living room. "Hey guys."
Drew looked at Sam. "Hey Drew," she sent him a slight slime.
"Sam," Drew nodded as he bent down to hug her. "What am I supposed to tell Mom and Dad?"
"Nothing," Sam nodded. "I'll be fine. I'm fine."
"Sam, you have a cast on your left and a sling on your arm," Drew replied. "My sister's broken."
"Drew, if you tell Mom and Dad, they'll want me to come home," Sam sighed. "So, please, do me a favor and keep your mouth shut."
"I'll make sure he will," Jayk smiled as he gave Sam a hug. "After all, you did risk your life for us."
"You guys would've done the same for me," Sam smiled. It got quiet. I could feel the tension between her and Blake. Those two have been odd the past day. "Well, we should get home. I need some sleep."
"Okay," I sighed.
"We'll be coming back in two months to visit," Drew nodded. "For Christmas."
"Alright," I smiled. I got Sam into my 2015 black Toyota Camry and drove us home. I got Sam into the house and sat her on the living room couch with her left elevated. "Are you comfortable?"
"David, I'm fine," Sam smiled. "I'll let you know if I need anything."
"Okay," I nodded.
"David, you're adorable when you try to be caring," she smiled. "Just, I'll let you know if I need anything."
"Alright," I nodded. "I am going to make you a strawberry smoothie."
"Okay," Sam smiled. I handed her the remote and went to the kitchen. I made the smoothie and walked back to the living room with the glass. "Thank you." She started drinking as we watched Supernatural. "I love this show."
"Sam," I sighed, not really wanting to talk to her about Blake. "What happened between you and Blake?"
"Blake and I broke up yesterday," Sam looked at me. "Blake went to see me in the hospital yesterday. I couldn't deal with what he was wanting."
"Sam, he cares about you," I looked at her. "I know you see it's killing me when I say this but he loves you."
"If someone loves you enough that they care, they wouldn't ask you to quit the one job you love," Sam quickly stated. "Blake wants me to quit the FBI and moved back to LA where he can take care of me or quit the FBI and get back on the road for tour." I looked at her. "I was taught to be independent."
"I would never ask you to do that," I nodded. "Even if you are wounded because it's something you love."
"And I know that you love me, David."
"Of course I love you."
"David, not in that way."
"What way?"
"The way you just said it sounded like a best friend. All the other times, it had meanjng like you want to be with me."
"Sam, I do. I do wanna be with you. But I have one question. How hard did you hit your head falling down the flight of stairs?"
"David, I'm thinking perfectly fine. I know you love me. I love you too, David. Ever since we first met, I knew you'd be something more. But I can't be with you."
"How complicated is this situation of yours?" I asked. She looked at me. "You know you can hide anything from me."
