Chapter One: Just a bit of sass
The strobe lights were near blinding, and the drinks tasted horrible. A weird techno song blared out from oversized speakers and grated at his fast forming headache. Bodies ground on bodies, hands clamping over body parts that were barely covered. Women wore short, short clothing and men dressed different from normal attire. He wasn't interested in anyone at the club, all he wanted was a drink.
Someone brushed up against him, apologized in slurring voices, and was pulled away quickly by the person trying to get into the others pants. He didn't even cast a glance in their direction, eyes locked on a girl swinging and swerving through the crowds. Her blue hair was pulled up into a high ponytail, the natural dark spots shining in the colored lights. His best friend was dipping and diving and grinding on her dance partner, drunk as could be.
He dragged a hand through his hair, before raising a beautifully groomed eyebrow as a woman stopped before him. He wasted no time in checking her out; the bulging breast, tight outfit, wide hips, and plump lips. Her hair fell to the middle of her back, and her brown eyes shown with seduction. She swept a tan hand through her dyed blonde hair and batted her heavily filled eyelashes.
She bent over just enough to give him a good view down her shirt. "Hey sexy, why you alone over here?"
He dropped his hand from his hair and let it slip into the front pocket of his skinny jeans. The flannel he wore was still unbuttoned and showing the black t-shirt underneath. He blew at a strand of his neon blue hair and shrugged. "I'm waiting for my friend."
The woman pouted. "Well can't you leave him to find his own friend? I'm pretty sure if he's half as attractive as you, Hun, he'll be fine."
There it was. Everyone assumed he was straight, or friends with guys. He had one guy friend, considering he was... him... But he really didn't have time for the wannabe Kim Kardashian.
His purple and red eyes flicked to the DJ. They were playing a weird techno song that he didn't quite enjoy. Suddenly, the blonde before him let out an angry huff and stalked away as a blue haired woman pushed past her and straight into his arms. "DD, let's go home, there isn't anyone out there that interests me."
DD rolled his eyes at his extremely intoxicated friend, nodding and looking for an exit. Of course, on the one day he wanted to be free of the bar, she had to get drunk. "Honey, I love you I do, but you bother me sometimes."
She wriggled her hips and leaned into him. He glanced down at her and rolled his eyes once again at the straight shot down her dress. "Carry me, Gayboy." DD wasted no time in scooping her into his arms bridal style, making sure her dress wasn't showing anything.
Gayboy. It was her nickname for DD, since his sexuality was far from straight. She had started calling him that when he first moved to America, eight years ago from Colombia. She let out a cheer, letting her head fall back. He sent a smile at the bartender as we slipped out of the back door. A few years back him and DD had hooked up and been going on and off since.
"Hopefully Megumi doesn't puke in your care, eh DD?" the bartender joked.
DD nodded and slipped through the exit, flinching when Megumi's head cracked against the door. She moaned, before trying to roll over. "Last time I hit my head, I saw you naked DD. I dun wanna see you naked..."
Choking on his own spit, DD glared down at her. He stumbled over the sidewalk and towards his car. "Woman, you and I both know you loved it."
Megumi said something, but then fell asleep. DD unlocked his car, juggling the car keys and Megumi. Once he slid her into the back seat, he started the car and waited for a moment. His ring tone suddenly blared, and he recognized it immediately.
He answered and the bluetooth in his car picked it up immediately. " DD, my wonderful owner, when the fuck are you getting your ass home?"
DD rolled his eyes and resisted the urge to groan out loud, pulling out of the parking lot. "Hello to you too, C.L. What's up with you now?" The lights passed by in a breeze, passing quickly. The night blended, and DD became aware of the fact that he was racing over the speed limit. He slowed down.
The person over the phone snorted loudly and hissed. Hissed. "You put my food bowl on the kitchen counter! How in the everliving fuck am I supposed to get to it? I'm dying over here! Dying! I'm hungry!"
DD snorted. The person over his phone was his talking cat, C.L. The small animal had a condition, transverse terminal hemimelia. His front legs were shorter than normal, and he was unable to bury his waste. As a kitten, that was why he was given up. DD was gracious enough to take him in, even if he was the sassy asshole he was. "Why not just eat Zeus and Qawaya's food?"
C.L snorted. "Like they would ever let me eat some of their food. Plus it's outside! You really expect me to leave this house?"
DD rolled his eyes. "I'm on my way you needy jerk. Bye now."
"But DD I-" DD hung up before C.L could say anything. Megumi groaned from the back seat, rolling over and straight onto the floor.
"Ugh," she moaned, "I don't feel so good!"
"Please Megumi don't throw up in my-" DD cut himself off as Megumi heaved all over the back seat. He wrinkled his nose and cursed, before looking in the rear view mirror and cursing again. "Never mind..."
In the town DD and Megumi lived in, everyone knew everyone. Everyone was friends with everyone and no one fought. It was a small town, called Iragaine, in Louisiana. Although Megumi had lived there all her life, DD had come from an american family holed up in the deepest parts of Colombia. He had a slight accent, and the habit of going out any time the sun rose. He was not active, though. He went outside when the sun was up, only to go for a long drive, or sit in his backyard and eat snacks, read manga, or just plain sleep.
Sometimes, he would take his two dogs out for a walk, and C.L would stand on the back of the largest one, Qawaya. The three animals were inseparable.
Qawaya was a large grey and white Caucasian Shepherd dog. She was up to his hips, and stood at DD's height when on her back paws, and DD was taller than normal. The other dog was a normal sized Catahoula Leopard Dog named Zeus; his fur was a mixture of grey, tan, and white. His eyes were two different colours, one a bright blue and the other a dark brown.
DD had received the two from his uncle during the two years he stayed there. But that was a story for a different time.
DD woke up from the previous night, having had to bring Megumi to his house to scrub her down. He felt the familiar warmth of Zeus draped over the bottom of the bed. Qawaya's soft snored came from the ground right next to him. C.L was most likely in the guest room with Megumi, as the two had bonded over the times they had known each other.
All DD knew, was that Megumi stunk. He had bathed her, but he knew he wouldn't have gotten all of the throw up. And he was going to make that girl clean his car.
As soon as the thought came to his head, he dismissed it. Like he would actually make her clean something. The girl didn't do much often. They two went to the same school, he for law and her for music and business development. She already had a major in Music, as she was a smart woman and flew through most classes. At the moment, the two worked as bartenders in a high held bar, working as many hours as possible.
The sun hit DD's eyes, and he was out of bed as fast as he could be. Barely avoiding Qawaya, DD raced out of the room and down the hall towards Megumi's room. He was running in only a pair of pajama bottoms with neon cats all over them, and he knew later that Megumi would make fun of them, but he didn't care.
He threw her door open, hopping from one foot to the other like a child. "Megumi! Megumi! Let's go out today!"
The poor woman rolled out of bed with a shriek, pulling C.L down with her. The cat let out a hiss and curse words on the way, threatening Megumi when he struggled to his two back paws. Megumi groaned and pressed a hand to her forehead. "I hate you DD, I hate you so much."
DD rolled his eyes and placed a hand on his hip, cocking it and sending her a cocky look. "Honey, you and I both know that you're lying through your teeth. Now go take a shower and brush your teeth, we leave in two hours. I'll call in." With that, DD slammed the door just to spite her, walking down the hall with a sassy sway to his hips.
