Chapter Three : Go Gayboy!
DD was used to being alone, so many times had he rolled out of bed and was glad to be alone. But something about that morning was different. That morning, he couldn't seem to get over it. Many thoughts ran through his mind; most involved settling down.
Megumi, the woman being her stubborn self, had spoken to him about a last minute business trip they would have to take soon. Megumi, although going in for music now, was also going into law with DD, so that would be something completely different for her. The woman had also convinced him to house the newbies; they wouldn't have a home to stay in and Iragaine wasn't known for its five star hospitality. None of the hotels were recommended to anyone at all.
The man laid in his bed, eyes locked on the ivory coloured ceiling above. For some reason, he couldn't shake the feeling of un-want that fogged up his thoughts. He sighed heavily and let his eyes droop.
The newbies would be there around twelve; he had five hours to cook and clean. He pushed himself up and out of the room, setting out for coffee first. Qawaya sat next to Zeus, who was barking beside the slider door.
DD let them out and refilled C.L's food bowl, placing it on the ground. Humming, he checked his phone, and began playing some random punk song. After getting dressed, he began cleaning; that day his version of dressed was a pair of jeans, socks, and a belt. He was walking around shirtless. His chest was bare, and he spouted a tattoo. He had received the tattoo at a young age, thirteen, when his parents held him down and made him sit still enough for the tattoo artist to draw the tattoo on.
The two parents were nothing to DD, a bunch of scarred and ugly memories that haunted his nights and caused most night terrors. His parents decided that their gang sign would look good, tattooed onto a young boy. That was where most of DD's dislike for tattoos came from.
DD tightened his belt and moved to the closet, breaking out the vacuum. C.L was draped over a blanket, curled into a ball cutely. DD ignored him and began vacuuming. After he cleaned, ten rolled around and he began cooking. He chose to cook breakfast, singing along to Fall Out Boy and bobbing with the beat.
Just as he sat the last plate down, the doorbell rang. "Hold on!" he called. Scrambling to the door, he unlocked it and it swung open. Megumi and Savanna stalked in, anger and pain radiating off of them. River looked around awkwardly, Quinton standing beside her with a mean look on his face. He always seemed to have the same look, DD had noticed.
Savanna plopped down on the couch and spread out, eyes closing. Megumi clapped excitedly and took a deep whiff of air through her nose. "You make omelets, DD?"
A quick nod was from him as he gestured for everyone to come in and take their things off. Out of the corner of his eye he watched Megumi streak into the kitchen and swore. "Megumi Christine Tokohami! You better not eat off of that damn skillet!"
"Too late!" came Megumi's muffled response, and she tiptoed past with a mouth full of egg and ham, giggling to herself.
DD rolled his eyes and cocked a hip, placing a hand on it. Although a bit too late now, he had wished he'd gotten a shirt on. "So, how was your night?" he asked politely. Of course, River just looked around, a judgemental gleam in her eyes. Quinton was avoiding looking at him, and would blush when he caught DD's gaze.
"It was fine," River stated. DD nodded. "You got animals here?"
Laughing, DD nodded a bit. "Mhm, two dogs and a cat. Wanna see them?" Quinton's mad look instantly switched to that of terror.
It happened in seconds, Quinton's terror spilling out of his mouth in the form of quick, awkward apologies and confessions. "Please don't bring them in here, please, please, I don't like animals I have a fear I don't know why but please don't bring the dogs in here." DD could see River's crimson eyes roll and she just flipped her raven hair over her shoulder, stalking forward.
"I want to see them." Savanna snorted in anger from the couch, but stayed quiet, even as Megumi stepped forward to say something to River.
"Well, I can see if I'm okay with them but I don't like dogs, they scare me I'd rather not you know, see them." Quinton's breathing sped up rapidly, and DD blinked in shock. River once again rolled her eyes and glanced out the slider door.
"They out there?" she asked. DD nodded, hesitant to tell her the location of her dogs. Quinton closed his eyes tightly when River yanked the door open and called for the animals. DD looked on in concern, kind of scared of Quinton's reaction to come.
Two dogs, large and energetic, streaked in. Qawaya calmed when she saw the atmosphere, locking eyes with her owner and sitting down. Zeus, on the other hand, didn't take the hint, and hopped onto DD. The man swore a bit, and placed the dog onto the ground in a millisecond. "Quinton, I really could bring them outside, they have a cool ass pen i could put them in."
Quinton's eyes were wide, frightened and near spilling over. "N-no this is your house..."
DD shrugged and smiled reassuringly, "They'll be fine. Really."
Quinton glanced down at his feet, twiddling his thumbs cutely. DD stepped forward and tilted the man's chin up with his thumb, staring into his dark eyes. Quinton blushed and his eyes flicked down to DD's chest. "Umm...."
DD shuffled away quickly when he saw how uncomfortable Quinton had become. "Why not we get you comfortable with the dogs and the gang can go for a tour or something?"
Savanna and Megumi interrupted, "Nope we got things to do. See you,"
River shook her head violently and yelled out, "I'M STAYING WITH YOUR CAT OH MY GOD LOOK AT HIM!" It was the wrong time for C.L to show himself. He tried to speed away, but river caught him and scooped him up into a tight embrace. Quinton giggled, causing a smile to grace DD's face.
"Okay, well it'll be Quinton and I then. Qawaya come here." The large dog shuffled forward and yipped lovingly. DD didn't ask to take Quinton's hand, didn't pause to press it to Qawaya's large head, didn't even try to calm the boy's heavy panting. Instead, Qawaya just stared deep into Quinton's eyes, and a silent understanding passed between them. Quinton calmed, his breathing slowed and he no longer shook.
"Qawaya is around eight years old. She's been around large groups of children, played with three year olds, and helped a family out of a fire. That dog, she won't hurt anyone, unless they deserve it." DD's voice came out in the silence as a gift from the gods in Quinton's eyes.
Quinton shuffled over to Zeus, hesitant but less than before. The energetic male dog barked and dropped down into a playful position, licking the man's hand when it came close enough. Another giggle slipped from Quinton. He began playing with the dogs, and Savanna stepped up to DD.
"You better treat that boy good. He deserves so much." The woman, blue eyes filled with a wise knowing that developed in the years she had been gone, turned to look at him. They shared that one, silent moment, and they both knew.
"I promise." Savanna nodded, turned and called to megumi. The two women said their goodbyes and dipped out of the house easily. River slipped into her new room with C.L dangling from her arms and yowling profanities.
Quinton laid on the ground, watching TV and cuddling the two dogs. DD was laying across the couch, still shirtless but completely bored. "Hey, have you taken a tour of the town yet?"
Quinton wasn't paying attention. His mouse brown hair kept falling in his face and it took all of his energy to blow it out of his face and concentrate on the Tv instead of DD's shirtless self. Couldn't the man put a shirt on? Did he not realize the affect he was having on Quinton? He probably knew and enjoyed messing with him. That was it. DD new exactly what he was doing, that was it. DD knew his affect and therefore thought it better to mess with Quinton.
"Did you hear me?" DD asked.
Quinton looked up, eyes locking with the man's odd ones. "What did you say?"
"Have you taken a tour of the town yet?" he asked again. Quinton shook his head and turned around to face him more comfortably. "Wanna go on one?"
Shrugging, Quinton nodded, "sure." He watched DD role off of the couch and snatch keys off the table, and looked at him.
Smiling widely, DD clutched the keys tighter and yelled out, "let's get this show on the road!"
