"Stay safe Boy Wonder," Barbara's voice was soft as she stared at the computer screen.
"I'll try."
The only sound that filled the clock tower were the clicks of the keyboard as Barbara typed.
"Barbara, I-I want to thank you. I know it must be annoying when a adult comes into your window at 2am on the brink of death."
"It's no problem. I will always help you when you need it."
The formality in Barbara's voice made Dick cringe. It was so plain. It was how she would talk to a person she just met, not someone who has been her best friend for years.
Anthor keyboard click silence filled the room.
"I should really get going."
Barbara didn't say anything.
"Barbara. Babs."
His use of her nickname got a small reaction out of Barbara. She took a deep breath and turned towards the blue-clad protector of Blüdhaven.
"What is it?"
"I want to apologize. You've been so...
so distant lately. I will do anything for you to forgive me. Just please, tell me what I did wrong."Dick was crouched down so he could be level with Barbara's sparkling, green eyes as he held her hand and ran his thumb over her knuckles.
Barbara choked back a sob with a laugh. "You haven't done anything wrong, Dick. That's not the problem. You are a wonderful man. I have no doubt that you loved the Batgirl but one day you are going to wake up and relize it's just me."
"No. That will never happen. There is no such thing as 'just you.' You are the most wonderful, caring, strong, independent, feiece, powerful, amazing woman I have ever met. I will never be anything expect in love with you Babs, so there's no use in trying to get rid of me."
In one quick moment Barbara grabbed Dick and kissed him with all the passion she could.
"You are such a sap, circus boy"
"Yeah, but you know you love me for it."
