It was 1:08 PM. He had overslept once again.
"Stupid alarm clock," he grumbled as he shuffled around the room.
"Adam? You're finally awake I see." His mom had stuck her head in the room as she passed by his room. Adam glared at her with his lazy eyes and she instantly left the room, closing the door behind her.
Adam grabbed a shirt and a pair of jeans off the pile of clothes on the floor next to his bed. He pulled the blue striped shirt over his head and slid on the pair of jeans as he hopped over to his window. Throwing the curtains open, he was blinded by the bright midday sun. His icy blue eyes glistened as the light hit them. Adam squinted and turned away.
He dragged himself to the bathroom where he performed his daily routine. It involved Adam singing into his brush as if it were a microphone, somehow missing the sink as he brushed his teeth, spraying way too much cologne on himself, and shaving the mini mustache that kept appearing over his lips. He ended it all by slapping some acne cream onto where ever there was acne on his face. His face was covered in cream by the time he was done.
By the routine end, he was feeling more refreshed and ready to go on with the day. Adam skipped down to the kitchen where he was met face-to-face with his father. The smile that occupied his face was then replaced with a frown.
"It's about time you awoken. We are going into town," his father informed him.
Adam groaned and walked back up to his room to fetch his shoes. He put them on and laced them up before reappearing in the kitchen.
"Do I have to go?" Adam asked.
"Yes, and you already have your shoes on. Let's go." He was already half way out the door when Adam crossed his arms and strolled out behind him.
As they walked into town, Adam's dad rambled on about his job. "It's summer. What you should be doing is working in the Studio with me. We can bond and you can make money selling art. Or you need to at least get a job somewhere else to make money. Use your free time wisely. You could help the family by bringing home more money."
Adam sighed. His dad was right. The Delroys were just about broke. Adam's father worked hard each day in his Art Studio making art to sell. He was very talented when it came to art and his art sold fast. Mrs. Delroy didn't have a job; she was recently fired from her job as a nurse at a local hospital. She continued to look for job as the days went on and she got rejected from most. Adam's older sister, Ania, was a few years older than he. She was gorgeous and many loved her. Their mother suggested entering her in a pageant to help win loot for the family. Adam could play the trumpet, he wondered if he stood out on the street and played, if he could make money.
When they entered town, Adam spotted a group crowded around the Community News Board. He pushed and shoved his way through the crowd until he made it to the front. A giant paper was plastered in the middle of the board.
'Princess shot and killed! Prince commits suicide after her death! King and Queen move out after sudden tragedy! New King and Queen needed!'
Adam gasped at the news. Mr. Delroy hovered over his shoulder minutes later, also shocked by the news.
"Hey, usually Kings and Queens are rich. Maybe if we somehow become King or Queen..."
"But HOW!?" Adam interrupted.
"Ania! She can be crowned and get money for the family!"
Adam face palmed. How did he guess his father would suggest her to become Queen? Mr. Delroy grasped Adam's wrist a dragged him out the crowd towards Town Hall.
"I must find out further information!" Mr. Delroy cried.
