"You know pretty soon, your not gonna need me anymore" I said as I looked down at a cute and focused brunette.
He looked at me with worry. His eyebrows were pulled in, and it almost seem as if his big brown eyes had gotten bigger.
"What do you mean?"
"I mean, You know biology so well now, there is really no point in me tutoring you anymore" I gave him a warm smile. It was a cold fall morning, so I had a cozy cream scarf on over my flannel. And instead of my typical apple juice I replaced with warm apple cider.
"But, I don't think I can-" Jack began
"Im not pushing you away, trust me I could always use the money. I am just saying since we are fri-" I took a slow breath "friends now. There is always the option of me just helping you for free and when you need it. Instead of waking up early Saturday mornings." I trailed off "Just a thought"
"Can I take you somewhere?" Jack spoke up after a moment of pure silence
"Right now?" I looked at the time. We had about 3 minutes left
"Yea" He looked at me with a hope in his eyes that you would see in a child opening a preasant Christmas morning.
"Sure" He reached his hand out for me and I took it. I slipped ok my leather jacket and we were out the door.We walked to his jeep and got in. Driving peacefully, I watched as we drove out of the busy city and out towards the coast line. We continued for hours until we reached the pier on the ocean. It was now 5 and the sun was going down.
"The beach?" I giggled
"Just wait" He said and led me once again onto the crowded pier. We reached the edge, there sat a closed Sea food restraunt. He opened the door, which I assumed would be locked. I followed a determined Jack and we reached the back door. When you opened the door there was about 5 feet in length of dock and then it ended. Jack sat down and stared into the endless blue.
"I feel like im in a cheesy romance movie and your about to tell me this is where you come to get away from everything" I laughed and looked at him.
"Romance movie?" He smirked
"Yea romance" I smiled
"I don't come here that often. My godparents own this restraunt behind me but they only do breakfast." I nodded looking down at our hanging feet. We sat taking in our surrounding until I heard Jack utter one word. "Why?"
"Huh?"
I"Why don't you do relationships? And don't tell me its because relationships last. There are thousands of cases where they do. What is the real reason?" He turned his head to me which he had done many times when we were sitting in silence.
"I " I looked down at my hands. I knew the real answer, deep down I did. The only problem is how I could get it out in words. Somehow I managed " I guess I'm scared?" I said as if it was a question
"I'm scared of losing ... losing someone that would obviously be important to me. I've grown up with broken promises and people walking in and out of my life. One month I might be at my mom's and the next I'm back in foster care. No one and nothing was ever permanent. Except for Sasha. And I met Aria in seventh grade, she made an effort to stay in my life" I laughed "No matter how many times I pushed her away. And with realationships, you are supposed to put all of your trust into that person, and how the hell can I do that if I cant even trust myself?" I looked to Jack. He had empathy in his eyes mixed with passion "I'm sorry, I have never actually said all that outloud before" I shook my head looking down
"I don't know how you feel. But I am here for you Cora, ya know if you ever need it" Jack said taking my hand.
"Don't get sappy on me Gilinsky" I teased keeping our hands in place.
"Okay how I about I ....just push you-" Jack pretended to push me into the ocean which scared me half to death
"Jack!" I screamed "I hate you!" I laughed once I was steady again. We laughed looking at eachother as if there wasn't a whole world behind us.
"You said you were in and out of houses growing up, where were your parents?" He looked to me
"They were and are alchoholics. They would try their hardest to stay sober but their temptations got the best of them. So they would be in rehab or with me. Or god knows where doing god knows what" I thought of the memories of me sleeping by the front door hoping they would come back and pick me up. The countless nights of wondering where they were and when they were coming back. If my mom and dad would be together or not. And all the days I would be in court with people fighting for custody of me and my sister. Somehow our parents always won. "Once Sasha turned 21 she had met Danial and he took us in. I was 14 at the time"
"That's amazing Cor" Jack smiled looking at me.
"Im so lucky I found you Jack." I slightly blushed at the though
"Why?"
"Because you remind me of what its like to live happy" I smiled
"Hey Cora?" Jack said looking straight forward into the water
"hmm?"
"You do the exact same thing for me"
