I never expected it to happen. Seriously. I mean, really, who expects that you find your boyfriend cheating on you and you get lost in the woods on the same day? If you expect that to happen to you, then man, you have a sad life. But I'm pretty sure whatever was meant to happen to me was not meant to happen to me this way. Here, let me break it down.

I woke up on a normal Monday morning. It was just like any other Monday. The sun was shining, my nose stud was shining brighter than any sunlight there was. I could hear my mom snoring downstairs on the couch. I groaned, because I mean, no one likes Mondays. I sat up and in the mirror in front of me, my curls were flung everywhere. I stood and I couldn't get my mom's snoring out of my head, so I grabbed a random outfit and went into the bathroom.

I quickly brush my teeth and strip before jumping into the shower. I lather myself and scrub until I no longer smell like morning must. I dip my head under the shower head and scrub my hair clean. I jump out and look into the mirror where, even in my nude state, I look nice and clean. I throw on a black and white striped shirt and some jeans. I throw a towel onto my head and grab my straightener. I plug it into the wall and as it heats, I do my best to towel dry my hair. I let it hang and straighten my hair. In less than 15 minutes, my hair is long and straightened. I walk to my dresser and put in both my stud piercing and eyebrows piercing. Then I put on black flats before running down the stairs.

My mom's snores get louder than before and I can tell she has a major hangover. I always wondered why she drunk so much. I would say it's because my dad left her, but I don't believe she ever had a husband. At least I hope no man had to suffer through her torment. In fact, the only thing she ever did that was for me was when she taught me to cook. And let's face it. That was mostly for her then it was for me. I try to cover my ears to the motorcycle-like snores, but they just get louder. So, I run to the kitchen and grab her some Advil and a glass of water.

As I enter the lioness' den, the snores get even louder. I move closer to her, hoping she won't burst my eardrums open and set down the Advil. The glass stands beside it next to her cigarettes. As you can see, life wasn't really great for me, with a drunk for a mother. And she's single? Yeah... I don' t think those words go great together. I move to grab my bag from behind her, careful not to wake her, but she stirs and I freeze. I caught sight of the tattoo on her arm I had always hated. I don't even understand why would she get it? The tattoo was of fangs, but there was a shape of a stop sign over it. I mean, I don't get it. Does she just not like vampires or something? Did she really hate a mythical creature that much that she had to get a tattoo over it? I rolled my eyes and yanked my bookbag from behind her, not even caring if I woke her anymore. I left and slammed the door behind me.

My phone went off in my pocket and I pulled it out. It was my best friend, Jennifer. I pulled the green button over to answer and put the phone to my ear.

"Hey, Queen!"

"Hey, Jenny. You get to school, yet?"

"Yup. I'm waiting outside for you, Try not to be too late, okay, Carrie?"

"You know, I'm going to be late. It's already 8:30 and I don't run. Don't wait up, babe."

"No promises. Love you, Queen."

"Love you too, Jenny."

I hung up the phone and began the long walk to school. Jennifer had been my best friend since middle school. When we had first met, she saved me from getting in a fight by telling the people who had tried to fight me to fuck off. I helped her get rid of the good girl image while she helped me get rid of my bad girl image. We're basically inseparable. There were times where I had gone too far in our little play fights and I thought she would leave me. The feeling was worse than losing a lover. With that thought, I took my headphones out of my pocket and scrolled through my playlist
