Noah proceeds cautiously down the stairs. He looks around, and doesn't see Darien, his master. He moves into the kitchen, where he jumps. Darien is sitting there, seeming serious.

"Sir?" he asks.

"Please, Noah. Just... call me Darien." he sighed, seeming as if that wasn't what he wanted to say. Darien seemed relieved, but frightened at the same time. He sat with his elbows on the table, and his fists touching, slouching. This reminded him of when he first took the position as Darien's servant when he turned sixteen. Darien had warned the teen that it was a serious position and made him swear that he would take it very seriously.

"Um, okay... Darien." he bit his lip, testing out the name.

"Noah, sit." he ordered. Noah moved quickly to sit in the wooden chair across from his master.

"Noah... what exactly are your intentions with that girl upstairs?" Darien asked, leaning on the table. Noah hadn't expected that question. The thing he most expected was that he was fired. And that couldn't happen after he had just found his mate. She was in possession of his master and he wouldn't have access if he were fired. But apparently, that wasn't the case. Noah sat speechless for a few moment.

"Noah?" Darien asked softly. Something that had never happened before. Darien never speaks softly when dealing with him. He's either yelling and ordering or laughing and jeering with the boy.

"Um, well, sir, she's my mate-" Darien smacked the table with his fist, causing Noah to flinch lightly.

"Sir... Is there a problem with that?" Darien shook his head.

"No, Noah.... no problem at all." Darien shook his head and Noah narrowed his eyes and tilted his head.

"Sir, do you approve of that?" Noah asked quietly, hoping he wouldn't lost his job over this. No matter what Darien said, he could be hiding something that he wasn't okay with.

"Yes, Noah. I approve greatly. You have no idea, but... you will no longer be my servant." Noah gaped. No, he couldn't lose his job... but which was more important?

His mate?

Or his job?

Why is he even asking this question? There's no doubt what the answer would be. He closed his mouth quickly.

"Okay, Darien. But, are you sure everything is all right?"

"All, you need to know, Noah, is that you treat her right, or there will be hell to pay." Noah nodded. If he ever hurt that girl, hell would be better then what he would experience. And he knew that. But why was Darien so worried about it?

"I swear, I won't let anything happen to her. If I do, I'll give myself hell. But, Darien, why are you worried about my mate and I?" he asked.

"I just... Noah, I need you to understand that I care deeply for that girl upstairs. But the reason is something you are not ready to know yet, and neither is she. So, keep this conversation quiet, okay?" he asked. Noah nodded, wanting to question everything the vampire had said, but he heard a scream.
