The dragon's claws gripped the edge of the rock and it made a long screech. I crouched down the ground and slowly backed up. 'It doesn't know I'm here yet..' I thought.

The dragon was was tall, about 9 feet, and had a slim figure. It's tail was long and wrapped around the rock. It also had 4 horns, two on each side of its head. The dragon had almost clear eyes, that made it appear blind.

It locked eyes with me and I held my breath. The dragon looked curious, as if it found a new chew toy to play with. 'I wonder if they make toys for dragons. Like hey, play with this and not me please!'

As if the dragon could hear my thoughts, it outstretched its long wings and howled.

"Wow..." I gasped. It's wingspan must have been at least a good 14/15 feet. The beast jumped from the rock and landed in front of me, growling.

"Heh, nice dragon!" I whimpered and slowly rose to my feet, keeping the eye contact and my arm stretched out. I looked around for a getaway. "There," I gasped and ran past the dragon and jumped, grabbing onto a vine that was hanging from the ceiling.

The dragon growled and turned around. I swung the vine and leaped, landing on a pile of rocks on top of the waterfall. The dragon found where I had landed and flew over. It landed right infront of me, giving a big screech.

I looked around in every direction for a way off the waterfall. 'I could jump into the water, but I'm too far up and the water isn't deep enough.' I turned around, looking down. There was no water that way, but again I wouldn't make the jump.

The dragon growled and I turned back to face it. It crept closer to me, it's body low to the ground. I backed up, but lost my footing and slipped off the edge of the waterfall.

The wind howled in my ears as I fell, it's icy touch slapping my face. I screamed, for what reason I don't know. There was no way anybody could save me.

But something could save me. The dragon dove off the same ledge I fell off of and swooped under me. I landed on its soft back instead of the rocky ground of certain death. The dragon continued to glide down and landed beside the river, gently letting me off its back.

The dragon looked at me and I cocked my head. "Why did you save me?" I breathed. It cooed and nudged my arm with its head, almost toppling me over. "H-hey!" I laughed and took a step back.

"So what now?" I asked the dragon, not really expecting a response. It got up, and stepped toward me. We locked eyes and I whispered "Tavreth." The dragon jumped up. "Tavreth? Is that your name?" I asked. It gave a small nod. "But..?" I looked down at my hands and clenched them. "How did I know that? It just popped into my head," I sighed and sat down. Tavreth curled up beside me. "Is this what the mentors ment?" I put my hand on Tavreth's head.

A scream echoed through the cave. I jumped up. "Who was that?" I looked around, unable to tell where the scream came from.  Another scream bellowed around the cave. Tavreth got up and nudged me, motioning its back. I jumped on the dragon's back and it took off towards the sound.

Tavreth flew me into the large clearing my group was in before. There were two dragons, both cornering two of my group mates. We landed and I jumped off, running towards them.

"Hey!" I yelled in attempt to get the dragons' attention. They swiveled their heads around and howled at me. Tavreth jumped infront of me and screeched back. The dragons flew at Tavreth and nipped at her. Tavreth hissed at me and I nodded, running over to the girls.

"Are you two ok?" I asked, checking them over. They nodded, out of breath. "We ran..ran away from them," One gasped. The other grabbed my arm and asked, "Is that your dragon?" I blushed lightly. "Uh yeah. Anyway did you guys do something to anger the dragons?"

The two girls exchanged glances then shook their heads. 'Ok if you're going to lie to me you have to do a better job then that.' I sighed, "Just wait here, ok?" I ran back over to Tavreth, who was pinned down by one of the dragons.

"Hey!!" I yelled, drawing them over to me. The dragon jumped off of Tavreth and hurdled itself into me. I was knocked back and before I could get up, the dragon tossed me aside. I hit the ground hard and groaned, unable to get up.

Tavreth howled at the dragon and scraped its shoulder. It growled and blew fire, engulfing the room and flames. The temperature was rising and smoke was heavy. I coughed, and crawled over to the girls, yelling, "Get out of here! Go!" They took off and I got up steadily. My shoulder ached but I was determined to repay Tavreth for saving me earlier.

I grabbed the knife that was by my side and ran over to the dragons. Tavreth was struggling to keep up with the larger dragons. I snuck up behind one of the and stabbed its tail. It howled and turned to grab me. I ducked from its reach and ran around to Tavreth. She hissed at me again. "I'm not leaving you here!" I yelled in defiance. I jumped on Tavreth's back and she flew up. The dragon that had spit fire everywhere flew up in the air and rammed into us. Tavreth was thrown back and I slipped from her back, falling down to the flames below. "Ahh!" I screamed and grabbed onto the tip of Tavreth's tail. The dragon rammed into her again and we both fell to the ground.

We landed on the flames, dazed and hurt. I yelped, my shoulder on flames. Tavreth howled, her shoulder also on fire. I rolled around on the ground, in pain, trying to put out the fire. It didn't seem to work, and actually made it worse. The flames traveled down my arm and to my hand. Tavreth and I yelled out in pain.

My head got heavy, and the smoke was filling my lunges. My eyes closed and the world faded away.

---

I awoke with a start, my body covered in water. "Sit still," A voice urged. I was to in shock to make out what was happening.

"Tavreth," I muttered, trying to get up. Hands pushed me back down. "Please sit still darling." My eyes closed and I mumbled myself back to sleep.
