Dirty Secrets
By: Ari-Senpai & Laney-Chan
Chapter 1

The Kira case was going nowhere. They had no leads, no clues... L didn't even suspect Light Yagami as much as he did before. He couldn't have still been Kira... Even if he once was. So the question still remains. Who has Kira bestowed his powers unto now? L looked at the recent list of names again. Then something strange happened. He didn't recognize some of them. Why hadn't he noticed this before?! I suppose his sleepless night's and stress had been catching up to him. He researched one of the names and found that it was not a criminal, but only a businessman. SO his face would never have been on the news... He researched the rest of the un-familiar names and came up with the same thing. "Soichiro!! CHIEF!!" He yelled loudly so he could hear. The Chief came rushing into the room, breathing heavily. "Ryuzaki, what's wrong?!"

"I found something that might help us single out Kira." The Chief gasped and jogged over to where the detective was sitting. "You see these names here?" He pointed to the list. "I knew I hadn't recognized them from the news. So I researched them and it turns out that they are not in fact criminals." The older man's eyes widened, and he leaned in. "They are businessmen?" He said slowly after L showed him the search results. He nodded. "So that means that Kira would have no reason to kill them for justice. Unless, he knew them personally. So we should search Yotsuba Corporations for Kira. He will be someone who either works there and had witnessed these acts of crime, or is a fellow businessman simply eliminating the competition."

A WEEK EARLIER

L was sitting on the couch next to Light Yagami, eating a bowl of sugar. He wet his finger by licking it and moved his arm forwards to dip it in the bowl; causing the chain linked between them top rattle slightly. Light glanced over at L "Have you found out anymore information on the Kira case?" He asked. The detective in question stiffened at the mention of Kira's name. He hesitated a moment before slowly looking over at Light. "No. In fact there has been nothing but the same murders that we had before." He said quietly with a sigh. Light nodded with a skeptical expression. L noticed this and looked up at him; raising a brow. "What's with the face, Light-kun? Do you think I am not being truthful to you?"

Light shook his head. "No, not that. I know everything is the same it's just you have seemed a little off lately." L tilted his head in confusion "Well I have been slightly frustrated with the case but nothing else has come up. It seems your deductive skills need a little work." He said without emotion as the turned away and stuck his finger in the bowl yet again. Light nodded again and leaned back on the couch with an uneasy sigh, "I don't understand how you can search for something for so long and come up with nothing." He put his hand down and glared over at the boy for his comment. "Are you questioning my intelligence, Light? Or do I need remind you that I am the best detective in the world. When I say that there is nothing, there is nothing. I don't see you doing any better." Light was taken aback but let out a small chuckle. "I know Ryuzaki, I apologize." The detective wasn't usually this snappy and it surprised him. But of course the Kira case had been working him down to the bone. If only he could help him...

"It's quite alright. I'm sorry for snapping at you Light-kun, I have been a little down in the dumps lately." But it wasn't just that. His thoughts were overwhelming him and he had constant headaches. His reputation was failing him and he didn't feel like a detective at all. He felt worthless. But luckily no one knew this or they might not want him on this case anymore.

"I understand. You have every right to be a little angry; you have been such a great help on the case." Light said happily, but then added "It must feel terrible to have the whole world on your shoulders."

The older boy looked up at him. "What do you mean by that? The whole world on my shoulders?" Light shrugged, noticing that he wasn't very clear on the subject. "Well you have all this pressure on you to catch someone that you don't even know exists. Someone from this other world.. And you can't. That mustn't be very fun for you."
