Little Layla grew up to be known by the nuns and priests of the church as "Hell Spawn." She could usually be found in the garden with friends and in her bedroom at lights out. But other than classes and meal time, no one could really find her.

She found you.

Layla climbed the pillars and wooden beams that support the ceiling and run around, jumping and playing up high where no one can reach her. She was known for spitting on people's heads and dropping notes or coins during Mass. No one could see her from below, just her shadow and maybe a flash of auburn hair.

When she was six years old, she could already reach the highest roof beam next to the stained glass window. She stayed up there for hours, and the only way they found the girl is because the light from the window cast her shadow on the floor. When she was ten, Layla stole from the donations from other religious groups and bought books and a journal, reading and taking notes about adventures and explorers.

The nuns wanted Layla Faliva out. She skipped multiple classes and was gone frequently, causing trouble inside and outside the church. But the priest insisted that she stayed, saying that whoever dropped her off many years ago would return eventually. Everyone doubted it. Especially Layla.

High up in the attic, Layla would read away from everyone in the late hours of the night. She made a journal about all the successful explorers and dreamed of one day becoming like them. She also read about islands and creatures on them, and studied ancient languages. She was a troublemaker indeed, but she was very intelligent and bright for her age. Whenever she learned something new that fascinated her, those bright blue green eyes lit up and looked gems in the sunlight, or the sea.
