Layla and Hugo both felt responsible for the Cains seeking war on the Habichs. But most everyone assured them that things were already tense, and bad things were bound to happen eventually. The group attacking Hugo and Layla was just a spark that ignited the flame, as Katia put it. When Marcos went to talk to Norman Habich, the man stated that his boys had no idea that Layla and Hugo were from the Cain family, and that it was a mistake. Marcos insisted he was a liar and war was declared.
Now, war between the two families isn't like all out tanks and nuclear weapons. It's very passive aggressive, like cutting off all trades and spreading the word to not help the other. Guns and things aren't drawn unless they cross territories.
The Habich boys in the US immediately left, but some of the Cain family followed them and severely wounded all six of them, sending a message to Norman that their revenge was just starting.
Meanwhile, Layla frequently visited her new friends. The Cain family was her new family. And her best friend was Huberto Cain. Abran was more than happy to invite Layla to dinners, evenings out, and once in awhile let her help in heists.
Big variety, I know.
Hugo was right when he said that letting her help in what they do would achieve greatness for them. She was small, so many people underestimated her, and didn't expect for her to taze them or send them flying off a balcony.
Big variety, I know.
Some things most people don't understand with these kind of families is that they have allies. Back up. The Habich and the Cain families aren't the only ones in the world. There are many others, but those two are on of the big four. The big four is the Atkin (UK, France, Russia. The largest, most economically powerful)
the Huáng (China, part of Japan. One of the largest, but stays neutral)
the Habich (Germany, Italy, Spain. Most politically powerful)
and finally, the Cain family (USA, Mexico, Brazil, part of Australia. Has most weapons, military skilled, etc).
Most South American and African countries were open territory. The main countries listed is where their "bases" could be found. The families are spread all across the globe, and aren't just limited to a last name. They could be close friends, like Layla, or maybe distant relatives.
Layla was dragged into the Cain family, but she didn't regret it. A couple years later, she departed from the church and started being with the Cains more and more. Abran took her in as a daughter, and constantly teased Hugo about liking her. He always denied it. But secretly, deep down, he found her attractive. And a little intimidating.
But who didn't?
Norman Habich was assassinated by an unknown figure (work of the Cains, the one who pulled the trigger was Abran) and his son, Hackett, took over as head of the Habich family. He was more of a weasel than his father, cheating out the Atkin family by stealing 30% of their treasure. Clayton Atkin, the son of Evelyn Atkin (the only female head of a great four family) asked for the Cain's help to get their treasure back.
And by treasure, I don't mean bank accounts. I mean that the Cain family literally has to break into the Habich mansion and take back the Atkin's gold, silver, and more.
