Iris didn't know what to do or say at the least. She brought the dragonet soon-to-be into her chest and cradled the egg, gently. She had her wings spread out and sheltered the egg with her wings. Iris, after cleaning up as much of her dead friend's body (quiet sobbing involved) rushed up to where she left the egg and proceeded to think about exactly what Blizzard meant. She didn't know how she was going to do that properly without becoming Blizzard herself.
She was happy she got to name the egg what Blizzard wanted. She didn't want to think about the bad, confusing times right now. I don't want to think anymore, I just wish it was suntime so I can sleep. "Hey there, little egg", Iris whispered in the most motherly way she could possibly imagine. "Aw, you lost your sparkle." Iris thought the egg's sparkle was really pretty, Rainwings can't shine like this egg could. The egg didn't really sparkle in the dark, so she didn't know what to think about that, nor did she have any more clues about the egg's origins and outcomes. The egg only shined when it was bright out and she could see everything clearly or when at least one of the moons were out, she was guessing. I've never heard of a shimmering egg before... I wonder who the father could be. Iris pondered, questioning her friend and what she was up to with some dragon who... Wait, why would Blizzard's own tribe hate her for having and egg if the father was within the same tribe? Icewing eggs couldn't possibly be a dark color, Icewings don't even reach a full blue! And, dragonet eggs don't change temperature! Iris's mind was a swirl of thoughts, all confusing and adding up to more questions.
Then, Iris felt the dragonet inside the egg move. Holy moons the egg's moving, what do I do? Iris yelled in her head. The egg didn't move all too much, just a slight shift which was just enough to bring Iris out of her state of confusion into one of panic. The panic only lasted a few minutes, when Iris realized that eggs do that. In those few minutes Iris managed to stand up, check if the egg was okay, sit down in relief, stand back up, and calm herself enough to stare at the egg and eventually sit back down again. She sighed and lay back down again, curling up next to the egg and putting her left wing around the egg as much as she could to keep it warm.
Iris remembered that she still had a job to do and a long time ahead of her, and she didn't want to rush things. Right now everything was as calm as a night in the Rainforest could get. The Rainforest wasn't eerily silent tonight, after Blizzard died. Iris took note of the calm hoots of the owls, the buzz of the bugs which- for once- weren't flying around her annoyingly, especially her face. She loved the Rainforest, but hated the annoying of the bugs. Iris sighed in content and was glad the moons were visible from her platform.
She would've been able to see the moons from her platform, if the sun wasn't rising. She couldn't see the sun yet, but could tell it was rising. She had been out here all night, with blizzard leaving to try to sneak back into the Ice kingdom, for some reason. Iris tends to blank out when she is thinking too much, especially without any distractions. Iris thought about talking to the egg. Maybe it's- she's- lonely, the color-changing dragon told herself in a way more questioning her mothering skills than being content with her current situation.
So, with some hope, Iris tried talking to the egg. "Hey there, little eggy." She laughed at the little nickname she gave the egg. "Do you like the sunshine? I do, the sun is comforting, that's when we sleep! Well, I guess you sleep all the time. Unless you can actually hear me from in there." Iris smiled at the egg and continued to keep on a look out for anything trying to lurk in the forest at night until the sun came up, signifying the end of her shift.Iris heard some rustling in the trees. She looked toward some Rainwing dragon who's shift it must be next. "I'll get going, have fun!" Iris jokingly yelled in the direction of the Rainwing after she had quickly but carefully swooped up the egg and flown off toward the more populated area of the Rainforest inhabited mainly by sloths and Rainwings. Iris did series of maneuvers around the branches and vines of the trees, all the while making sure she didn't upset Frostspike soon-to-be.
Iris landed where she could see the egg nursery with all the Rainwing eggs being totally un-cared for, and decided that leaving the egg there wouldn't be a very good idea. Iris knew this, and had an idea of what she would try to do with the egg.~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Sorry this took so long!
