TWENTY SEVEN

As the three went back downstairs, FP announced that the Whyte Worm would be temporarily closed until the vote.

"Great," Marina sighed, packing up her belongings, Toni and Sweet Pea across from her, "What am I supposed to now? My dad's going to wonder why I'm back from work early."

"Come with us," Toni shrugged, looking at Sweet Pea, who nodded.

"A bunch of us are gonna catch a movie," he said.

Marina nodded towards Fangs, who was goofing off with the rest of the guys as usual.

"Your boyfriend gonna be okay with me going?"

Sweet Pea looked over his shoulder to see who she was talking about, "Fangs? Why wouldn't he be?"

"Because I know he doesn't like me very much."

"He's just jealous," Toni laughed, "You're taking away his boy toy."

"He might have a new one anyway," Sweet Pea said lowly, leaning in to the girls, "The Sheriff's kids been hanging around lately."

"Kevin?" Marina questioned, looking at Fangs.

"Just come," Sweet Pea asked again, almost begging this time.

Marina pulled her arms through her jacket sleeves, fixing her hair, "Okay then."

As soon as they got to the theater, the Serpents had everyones eyes on them. Most people started to get up and leave as the group made their way through the theater. Adults were out of the door with their kids before they could even buy tickets. After the tickets were brought, everyone separated, wanting to do their own thing.

Fangs and the guys wanted to see an old 80s movie playing while Marina, Toni, Sweet Pea and some others chose a horror movie.

"I'll get snacks," Toni nodded to the concession stand, "You two go find some seats, I'll meet up later."

"You sure?" Marina questioned as Toni gave Sweet Pea a look.

She nodded, "Absolutely."

Sweet Pea and Marina walked down the aisle of the theater, not surprised when people started gathering their stuff and moving away. They found seats close to the back and sat down. Sweet Pea put his feet up on the seat in front of him, leaning back.

"You think Toni's gonna know where we are when she comes back?" Marina questioned, poking her up to look.

"Yeah," he scoffed, shrugging, "of course."

Marina thought so too until the theater lights dimmed and it was almost completely dark. She felt awkward, not knowing how to sit or what to do with her arms. The movie previews started up and she looked over at Sweet Pea, who was watching them, his arms crossed over his chest.

"Well, okay then," she taught to herself, placing an arm on the arm rest in between them. About 30 minutes passed during the movie but Marina couldn't stay focused on it.

She could feel the tension between her and Sweet Pea becoming a barrier. He was so closed off. His arms crossed, his body hunched and his eyes only fixed on the screen. Marina could feel herself trying to inch herself closer to him every couple of minutes. Her hand twitched, waiting to be held and her eyes lingered off the screen and to him every so often.

"I'm cold," she accidentally thought out loud, realizing it when it was too late. Sweet Pea sat up, trying to be quiet to not disturb anyone in the theater. He slowly stripped off his Serpents jacket, wrapping it around marina's shoulders. She smiled softly at him, "Thank you."

He went back to his previous position, arms crossed and laid back.

He nodded, "No problem." Marina sighed, her eyes going back to the screen. This was going to a long movie.

When the movie ended and the lights turned back on, people began to end up and leave.

"So, what did you think?" Marina asked, the first words spoken between them for the past hours and a half.

Sweet Pea shrugged, following her out of the theater, "Wasn't that scary." A couple of seconds later, a head full of vibrant pink colors came in appearance.

"Hey guys," Toni greeted, an empty popcorn in her hand.

"Thanks for bringing the snacks," Marina said, sarcastically.

"Sorry, by the time I came back it was already dark and I couldn't see you guys." She pulled a piece of paper out of her jacket pocket, "But, I did get a girl's number!"
