Once we finally got done packing the rest of our boxes, we all walked around the house one more time before leaving it. It was honestly so sad. I nearly cried, but Gabe didn't say anything. He was comletely silent. I wonder about him as we drive down the road. We still have 6 hours of driving. It was going to be a long day.
I decided to put my headphones in and pull out my current book that I had been reading. It was one of the novels written by Ellen Hopkins, called "Identical". I swear, all of her books are pure perfection. She really goes into detail and writes in a teenagers point of view. I usually don't likee reading that much, but this book is so amazing that i can hardly put it down.
I'm in the middle of a suspenful part when I feel kicking on the back of my seat.
"Gabe, knock it off!" I yell, annoyed.
"Make me!" he yells back.
I reluctantly swing my fist towards the backseat at him and miss by a longshot. Ugh, he annoys me.
"HA! You missed!" he says tauntingly. He really knows how to push my buttons.
"You're not gonna say I missed you when I kick your ass!" I yell.
Mom looks over and gives me daggers, "Rachel! Watch your language!"
"Well he started it," I say and reach for my book and start reading again.
Even though Gabe was 13, he acted like a 5 year old. It was really irritating.
After that, we all stay silent for the next hour or so, until mom stops at McDonalds.
"Let's grab something to eat before we get there," mom says, and we all get out of the car.
"ugh, mom, you know I hate McDonalds!" I say. It was true, I hated McDonalds with a passion. Their food disgusted me. I can't stand the taste of it.
"Well this is the last time we're eating until we get there. Why don't you just order a salad or something?" she says and shrugs her shoulders.
I guess a salad would have to do.
Once we got our orders, we sat down in a booth and started to eat. I ordered a salad with a vinegarette dressing, mom ordered a plain double cheeseburger, and Gabe ordered chicken nuggets with BBQ dipping sauce.
"Can I go play in the PlayPlace??" Gabe asks mom. I give him a confused look.
"Aren't you a little too old for that Gabe?" I ask.
Mom nods her head in agreement, "And we need to be leaving. We have another 3 hours on the road. It will probably be 9 by the time we get there."
He gives mom a sad look, but she doesn't buy it.
As we're walking out, I tell mom I'll be right out after I use the bathroom.
I enter the bathroom, and luckily nobody is in there. It is just too awkward when other people are in there with me.
I do my buisiness, and while I'm washing my hands, a girl who looks to be around 20 enters. She is wearing baggy sweat pants and a plain white t-shirt, and her hair is pulled up into a messy ponytail. We exchange awkward glances, until she finally says something.
"ma'am, do you possibly have any spare change to give me? I have no where to go, and anything helps," her voice is hoarse when she talks. I felt bad for her. But I didn't know if she could be lying or not. You can never trust anybody now days.
"I'm sorry. I don't have any money. I wish I could help," I say to her with apologetic eyes. It was the truth. I had nothing to give her, and I felt kinda bad.
