I feel like I'm 10 years old again. Dressing up my Barbies so they can go to the ball and meet their Prince Charming. Except in my case, Harry's maid (whom I started to call Poppy since she refuses to talk to me) is the kid, I'm the Barbie and instead of a prince I get a demon.
She curled and pinned my hair to my head, placing jewels into the soft curls. When she pulled out my dress, I was speechless. It was the most beautiful gown I had ever seen and it is exactly how I imagined my "perfect dress". I'm shocked that Harry picked something out that matches me so perfectly but I don't dwell on it long. I can't afford to let my defenses down, I did once and it nearly destroyed me.
Poppy does my make up to perfection and before I know it, the woman in the mirror looks completely foreign. Her grey eyes seem to smolder as they watch me. The graceful curve of her cheeks making her face appear thinner. Her dark hair pulled back into a gorgeous mess of curls and jewels. I turn away with a smile on my face, a little creeped out at how different I look but mostly blown away at how sexy and beautiful I feel.
Promptly at 7:55 a man rings the apartment saying he has been called to pick me up. Just as I head to the elevator I feel a tap on my shoulder. Poppy holds a bag in one hand, a note in the other. She extends the note to me and I take it.
Made me think of you. Hope you like it.
- H. Styles
I place the note aside and take the bag from her. All the breath leaves my lungs when I see the Cartier box inside. I carefully remove it and when I open it, I nearly faint. The most exquisite diamond necklace and matching earrings sit in black velvet. No one has ever gotten me something like this before and just like the dress, it is so me. I am again blown away by how much Harry knows me but confused by what the gift and his note mean.
The question looms over me as I make my way to the car and I'm so lost in thought that when I get in, I almost don't notice that I'm not alone.
"Oh shit!" I jump, placing my hand over my heart. "Liam? what the hell?"
"Sorry, I don't have a lot of time. I— why are you looking at me like that?"
I raise my eyebrow, arms now crossed over my chest. "Explain. Now."
He sighs at the anger in my voice, needing no further explanation as to what I'm talking about.
"I couldn't have told you about Harry, Aurora. You wouldn't have believed me and you know it. I know about him because Mr. Styles and I have... History. He took something from me and he's going to pay for it. We can make him pay together, especially now that you understand how dangerous he really is.
"I've done a lot of research in the past and I admit that telling you to get close to Harry was part of the plan all along... Since Harry is no ordinary demon, killing him becomes a little tricky. There aren't many ways."
"Wait," I interrupt him, completely confused to what the fuck he is talking about. "What do you mean Harry is no ordinary demon?"
"He didn't tell you?" He sounds dumbfounded, as if I've asked him the color of the sky.
"If you haven't noticed Liam, he isn't the most open guy. He's told me the basics, how they came to exist, how they are created, and how they are pretty much a plague in Seattle."
