Cure of 54

The truth behind us

August 14th 2234 - As I knew , the new-comers would leave. Well not leave us on a dirt covered road miles away from anywhere without any protection. Luckily my fast reflex saved us. Besides the zombies raging to get to us and we on side of a road. I have to say things are actually good. I have my friendly crew, we're only 12 miles away and we finally know we're getting into Washington D.C...

"Xavier, do ....do you think we can get somewhere before night?" Zack cringed just thinking even about it.

"Yes of course Zack there's various places we can hide to. We dealt with zombies for a while now...sadly." I brushed my hair out of my eyes thinking about all the people I can cure.

"Zack,Xavier.....I... I don't want to go anymore." Zack and I turned around to see Maria plop on the ground about to break in tears.

"Maria! What's wrong my darling friend? We need to keep going." I tried grabbing her. She shook herself and tried to get off of me.

"I ..I just don't know anymore Xavier! I don't want to go on living like this without my son. My son, Xavier! How can I trust you anymore there has to be some reason why you're going to the Worlds capital please stop keeping secrets from me!......I thought I was your guys friend?!"

Maria cups her face to cry out.

 I got down to one knee to comfort Maria. Maybe this is the moment to tell Maria, there's no reason to hide it anymore.

 "Maria..." I turned to Zack and he shook his head in approval removing his sunglasses and smirking.

I turned back to Maria "Look Maria, the real reason why Zack and I are going to The worlds capital is because we're science researchers for diseases and cures. Well basically the last science researchers for all we know. Anyway I....I created this apocalyps- ".

 "No! Noooooo Xavier why-y-y I can't believe you! You monster! You did this to my child! You ruined my LIFE!!" Zack and I held down Maria holding her mouth shut. 

"Darling I know! Please listen I..I'm trying to save your life, your everything everyone's everyone. I wanted the Confinjia disease off all of you people. It wasn't my fault you could of left this planet for the better. I did get rid of the Confinjia disease but it created these zombies In which we call 54's. We're not giving them a real name because I know there's an cure and THERE IS! Because when I accidentally created 54's I mixed two wrong strands. And after an year of doing the math I found the mineral we needed. And it's kept away in the capital. "

 I took out my journal and handed her to read she sniffled and looked at the pages.

  "Maria you survived two years. Two years! Alone. Your a tough girl." Zack grinned

 "You guys don't look like science researchers. Xavier you look like a badass cowboy and Zack you look like a tattoo artist." Maria giggled I'm happy she loosened up and got comfortable with the truth.

"What is it my tattoos? No the blue hair? No no the bad ass axe and sunglasses? Light skin?? Skinny body! Yeah got it!'" Zack chuckled along with Maria

Maybe we've been taking to much breaks. It's just good to have fun during an zombie apocalypse, hopefully we'll survive and get pass D.C's levels of security.

" Look at that! The sign of our worlds capital ah haha I hate the government" I said jokingly

 We all grabbed onto our guns since we're entering the city. Which is most likely to be with 54's. It's odd we've haven't seen many of the 54's ..just quietness which I don't know what we should more afraid of why is there no 54's or to fight them off. I need to stay focus on the answer to all of this. Blui. Which is the last element in my equation to cure this. How I know this? It's atoms mi-

 " Xavier did you hear that?? Should we go down the main roads or back roads?" Maria complained despite of her fear of either way

" Huh? Oh sorry I'm off in my own mind again. It's getting dark we should find somewhere soon" I checked the supplies to see if we would need anything

  I felt a hard smack on my back to notice Zack hitting me " You better hold your self Xavier,you making me suspicious of why you are keeping to your self. Are you going mad Sir?

" No..I'm fine. I just think I haven't got plenty of rest these years. I haven't really had plenty of rest without my wife."

"Okay, Xavier. I..I.. Just wanted to say your wife did it to stop the madness of Confinjia. She wanted to help the world."

 "But.. I...I RUINED it all I'm a worthless FAILURE" I throw my journal on the ground and screamed out in frustration

"Xavier.. You're NOT a failure you're ...you're a inspiration ...an inspiration to me. It was all of OURS fault of 54 . I know you can cure anything you're one of the well known researchers or any lab unit you're ...an creator Xavier.

We'll get
Through this...and have those waffles you promised to me." Zack grinned at me which made me just want to cry my eyes out of my fatherly love for him

I swiped my finger pass my nose sniffling "Thank you my dear Toria for this huge science experiment" I looked towards the ground looking at my journal with the photo of her in it. Black long silky hair that just passes her rib cage, the warmth in her smile, and the perfect voice to go with it.

"Here! " I cried out to the others throwing them ammo ; while I was mid thought the corner of my eye I've seen a gang of 54's gnawing on what seems to be some sort of meat hopefully in my mind it's not human.

"Don't make a sound. Just move slowly." I whispered to the others since the gang hasn't noticed us in the shadows we slowly step away 

About 7 minutes later. 

We reached an abandoned building that seemed empty which we had blocked for we can rest. 

"I'll keep watch you and Maria can sleep. Trust me I got something to keep my mind on to keep me awake"

"Are you sure? I'll be here if you need the sleep" Maria petted my head and fluffed my hair 

The night goes by I think about the many things that could be
happening right now,54's ,survivors, my other workers oh my heart is going to shatter even being the big man in this situation I start to tear up

  I hear a shriek from Zack's voice

 Shit!! I fell a sleep. I quickly turn around to see a gun pointing at me I cringe to make focus to see who it was

"Maria?! Why are you pointing a gun at me. Whatever I did we can negotiate it. There's no ...no ne-n-need for fighting." I got sort of worried to see the next scene that was going to happen

Quickly in defense Zack takes out his gun to point it back of Maria's head "Maria...please just put your gun away."

 "YOU DOOMED US ALL! The whole planet! Why JUST why?! "

 A gun goes off I close my eyes to fear whose it was.
