"Merry Christmas," Barry said when he came in. "Just a small token of my gratitude," he said putting something on the table, "for everything you guys have done for me this year."
"I think I speak on behalf of my colleagues when I say you've been a gift for us, Barry, Harry had said.
"What's that?" I asked, pointing at the thing Barry had set on the table just seconds earlier.
"This is compliments of Iris. Grandma Esther's famous eggnog," Barry answered.
"That's what I'm talking about," Cisco cheered.
"Maybe later, for me. Wouldn't want to drink and drive," Harry said coldly as he wheeled away.
"Harry," I called after him, but he just ignored me. I stared after him until Barry spoke.
"Did I say something wrong?" he asked.
"No," Caitlin said.
"No, man," Cisco said. "Hey, um, this used to be his favorite time of year, but the accident happened before Christmas, so kind of ruined the holidays."
I thought about going after him but then thought against it. He probably just wants to be alone for a while. "I'm going to go get him a present. Maybe that'll cheer him up," I said. I walked out then, not entirely sure what I could get Harry.
What do you even buy a grown man for Christmas? I never really had much experience in that department. Oliver would have been happy with just about anything that I bought him. My dad was always easy to shop for. Barry and Cisco are nerds and it's not hard to figure out what they might want. But Harry. What would he want? What kind of things does he even like? It was then that I realized that I don't know much about Harry. We've been together, what, almost a year now and I have no idea about his hobbies or interests. It's not that I don't care to ask, it's just he doesn't like to talk about himself. Maybe I could figure something out if I went home and looked at his things.
I drove home and went up to our bedroom. I opened up the closet. Nothing but clothes and shoes. I looked through his drawers and came up with nothing. I threw myself on the bed, face first. The bedsheets muffled my loud groaning.
"Something wrong?" I heard Harry say from behind me.
Quickly, I sat up and shook my head. He sat down next to me.
"I'm sorry about earlier. The holidays aren't exactly my favorite time of year, ever since,"
"It's okay. I get it. But don't you think you should try to move past this?" I asked. I understood where he was coming from. He may not have actually lost the use of his legs, but he did lose something else. He lost his reputation. He was responsible for so many civilian deaths after the particle accelerator blast. "To be honest, this Christmas won't be easy on either of us. This is the first Christmas after the particle accelerator explosion. It's also the first Christmas without my mom. She always took over the holidays and planned this huge party, where we were all forced to converse with snobby people who only cared that we had money. Oliver would always sneak off with Laurel and Thea and I would be stuck talking to these people whom we hated until Tommy would come to the rescue and take us out of there." I smiled as I remembered how Tommy would always get me out of awkward situations. I really missed him.
Harry put an arm around me, resting his hand on my shoulder. "We can move past this together," he said. I rested my head against his chest. He kissed my temple before saying, "you have no idea how lucky I am to have you."
I pulled my head away and looked at him. "By the way, I have been trying to figure out what to get you for Christmas and I can't figure out a single thing. You are so impossible to shop for."
